I, too, am a convert. 20 years now. I grew up LCMS, and honestly did not find many critical differences between the 2.The Church does not hurt people, people may have their feelings hurt by individuals who are Catholic or be offended by doctrines - heck, people walked away from Jesus because what He taught was too hard.
The Church is Christ’s Church, she is perfect - she contains some imperfect people, yep.
Guess it is just because I am a convert, I had to risk family and friends to come into full communion, and I will defend Her to my last breath.
What the priest and DRE did to us and our family was not “hard”; it was mean. The way the “religious directors” treated my CHILDREN over the past month has been horrible. There is nothing Christian or Christ-like in what they have done. Since our little incident, others have been coming forward and sharing their similar experiences. It is quite eye-opening.
Priests, who represent the Church, can be mean. Priests can be the antithesis of Christ, because they are sinners. I guess it hurts worse, though, because they are supposed to know better. When a DRE intentionally excludes children from certain programs, because she is afraid she will lose her job if the numbers on paper don’t look quite right, rather than minister to some real needs, she has lost her focus and her calling. And she, along with the priest, has caused the parish to lose a family. How will they answer God for that?
