Now that I think about it, most of the faces I see on Christmas Eve are familiar; it’s not surprising that the church is crammed full, if you consider that most of the parishioners that fill up our 5 Masses on Sunday are there! … and my MIL and aunt Betty usually come with us, and they’re not Catholics.

Church Millitant, really amazed me with his ablility to translate what I felt and believed while reading scriptures, and I know you love the bible also. rrp, is most special to me because he is well, over my head but, somehow makes sense anyway to me
and I see so many other wonderful faith filled in Christ people here, its safe to say that I have learned so much from the Catholic posters here, many to be sure,
and I have also learned from non catholic posters, Jewish poster, and I am excited to see what will happen next.

Its just weird to me, that I have much more meaningful exchanges here than in real life. (in terms of religion interest)
But, again I am new to this, so in time (his time, not mine) it will all gell together as he sees fit.

I just am so sad sometimes, that I dont really have any friends in the church yet. But, this is good in another way.

I have had opportunities to make friends elsewhere, and still I remain here. I believe the Holy Spirit has a place for me here.
If I can keep my mind on Christ, it will be His way, not mine.

I, too, am angry about this and I can safely tell you: NO it is not normal procedure in non-RC churches…

no its not normal procedure and they should NOT be making her wait to speak with the Pastor. No one should have to miss Christmas at church without a very good explanation!

It’s bizarre enough that if that is the real reason she was asked to leave, then she should not wnat ot be there . My first thought on reading it though was that there is something else going on than that. Even so, no way thye should make her wait till jan. to know about it!

I agree with all these folks!! That is truly bizarre behavior at that church. It sounds like they have gotten way, way out into left field someplace, to put more value on a parking lot than on people’s hearts & souls!!
I really have to say that, I have heard some truly outlandish things from some “nondenominational” churches lately, but this is easily the worst case of spiritual abuse in my memory.

Invite her to Midnight Mass with you. And I would also at least mention the Lutheran church you mentioned, if she would like a place to worship other than your own Catholic parish.

It is not a behaviour which Jesus would have meeted out to anybody, it cannot be a Christian or Catholic or a Humanist behaviour. She should have been treated with love and humanly.

The only things in the RCC, you could be excommunicated if you are outside the RCC teaching, not by your own behavior. But still, a consultation or a chance of hearing is still given prior to the actual excommunication.

In the Catholic Church, though, even excommunicated people are till allowed to attend Mass. They aren’t kicked out of the church and told not to come back, which is insane.

My friend (who I should spend more time with, but have not as much lately) just called me up crying her eyes out because her church kicked her out!
She is evangelical and in a non denominational church. This is how she describes herself anyway.
She told me it is because her husband refused to do the snow plowing this year, because he can’t afford to plow their lot and salt it because 2 employees quit on him last month. He owns a landscaping business and does this in the winter. They got angry when he told them this. The next time they went to their church to set up the new decorations in the lobby and to change the sign out in front, one of the members of the parish told them they needed to leave the property, and make an appointment to meet the pastor before coming back!

This is an outrage. Is this normal procedure in non catholic churches? They are hopping mad. I am stunned.

I think this only happens in fundamentalist churches. A friend of mine got booted by their lady pastor here in Chicago because he asked about an accounting of their church’s fund. He wanted to send money for the Katrina relief using their fund but the lady pastor said that it is not in the bible that she should be accounted by the congragation. Turned out that this lady pastor was using the funds for her personal use.

My experience, you need to get there 40-60 minutes early to get a seat! Usually they have a choir or congregational carols to fill up the time before Mass begins.

I will be there exta early because my child wants to bring red roses to Mary. I don’t know if red is a good thing for this.
She told me she has to bring Mary flowers, I asked what kind.
She likes red, so maybe that’s simple projection on her part.

People are people no matter where you go. To sit on a high throne and act like WE have it all figured out is pure silly. There are fundamentlist Catholics. My dad was one of them. In my experience, fundamentalist typically are also hypocrits. I’m talking about the beligerant kind of people that point out every flaw there is in others. Condemn others to hell for what ever. My previouis faith would clearly state that a woman as a preacher… Surely, they are all bound to hell. That’s not in the bible.

We’ve been disfellowshipped before for questioning the elders. I resigned basically before they actually disfellowshipped us. Beat em to the punch. From that day forward we looked for more progressive congregatoins that seemed to be more user friendly. But even there it’s not so simple. I’ve heard a preacher in my youth at a different Protestant faith preach hellfire and brimstones at some teenagers sitting in the pews. It was scandalous. Very sinful. I guess he never heard of detraction.

When any baptized Christian allows the Holy Spirit to work in them they tend to be far less obnoxious and humble. That is truly sad for you friend notsmart. I’ve been in similar boats. Its why there are so many Protestants that church hop. We did it. We went to more churches, same type, than years married in our first 17 years of marriage. We are now officially back in the Catholic Church loving it. Even trials bring joy. Joy to suffer like Christ.

We are going as a family with her to the Lutheran Church on Sunday after the 9:00 mass, to theirs at 11:30. I am having them over for breakfast.

I am so happy she will not be unwelcome at this time, no matter which she takes to.

There are so many Protestant churches that it’s hard to generalize. This, however, is similar to what I have either witnessed or heard about myself before we became Catholic. A relative of ours down south was actually thrown out of his non-denominational church because he insisted that racism was immoral. Now, he has been misled into believing in the lie of Christian Science. So, yes, unfortunately this is the kind of thing that happens when authority is inconsistent or non-existent. Non-denominational churches, in particular, seem to have problem dealing with issues like this from what I have heard.

**Kind of sets in concrete the whole Scriptural thing about “go to your church” when you have a problem. Where will they go? **

It is possible that this situation has something to do with a breach of contract, especially if the church in question paid in advance for services it is now not being provided.

The idea that the couple cannot even be on the property leaves me wondering if some sort of outburst took place which has the church concerned about future problems.

We’re really not privvy to the details of this situation so hard to do more than speculate.
