E Pluribus Unum is a beautiful Latin saying used to describe the people of the United States of America. “out of many, come one”, we (meaning US citizens) understand that to mean that the many races and nationalities that live in the US live together to create this great nation. We work together, we worship together, we socialize together, we do many of things together but a lot of times, we really don’t understand each others racial or ethnic backgrounds. I hear many times people say they are American for their nationality which is fairly correct. The younger you are the more that is evident. A lot of us still feel like immigrants in this country because of the ethnic customs we hold to so dearly. Other citizens who have lived in the US for many generations start to assimilate into the America way of life which is good.
We have to remember though that there are newly arriving immigrants to our country every day and there are strong immigrant sentimentality towards one’s country of origin and their customs still. That’s why we need to learn more about other’s cultures so we can understand them better. American History should be taught at the foremost but learning other cultures would help us understand one another’s joy and hardships too.
Each nationality, each ethnicity, each skin color type (I’d use the word raciality but its not a word) in our country is absolutely beautiful. God created all of us.
