Hello. I’m currently a member of an NO parish and am a daily communicant when my schedule allows. I’m wanting to join the local FSSP parish instead, however I often have to work Sundays and would have to go several weeks at a time with only being able to attend the weekday EF Masses.

This sounds selfish but I really don’t want to have to mix or balance parishes and forms. If I struck strictly with the EF, I’d knowingly be missing NO masses on Sunday evenings that I could/should be attending. I’m not sure if that’d sit well with me.

I do plan on asking the FSSP priest about this but I thought I’d obtain a sensus forum, if you will, before I approach him about that. I’m interested in hearing your opinions.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

By limiting yourself to FSSP to the extent that you would refuse to attend available Sunday EF Masses sounds a bit fishy to me. I understand your attraction to the EF Mass, but the Church teaches that Mass attendance on Sunday is mandatory. Snubbing an available OF Masses because you prefer the EF Mass, but you happened to be working during the time that it was available–you may prefer it, but I don’t like it.

My opinion only; other folks’ mileage may vary.

I don’t like it.

I actually don’t like it either. I also don’t like the tension of flitting back and forth between two different parishes and rites based on my work schedule.

I believe that I will need to have to prayerfully stay with the OF for a while longer until circumstances change.

We are not excused from our Sunday obligation to attend mass merely because one that we like is not available. I’ve gone to mass in another language or in another rite. Not ideal, but still the liturgy of our Holy Church. I don’t understand how attending mass in 2 forms requires balancing or something, but if one does not want to switch back and forth then attending the form that allows one to meet one’s Sunday obligation is an absolute necessity!

Indeed, indeed. And most humbly agreed.

This is a definite “Egg On My Face” post 😑
