Shinto Religion and Homosexuality

This question isn’t as totally random as it seems, but as a matter of curiosity: Does anyone know what the stance of the Shinto faith is on homosexuality?

Because Shinto is not a very organised religion by Western standards, there is no definitive ruling on homosexuality (or much else). There have been periods of rejection, and acceptance. Followers of Shinto tend to be utilitarian (i.e looking for the greatest good for the greatest number), traditional, and seek to follow natural law, many see homosexuality as unnatural, and as Shinto has no written scripture, the preservation of tradition (and thus the good for the community) relies on families and children.

Among the Samurai warrior class of Medieval Japan there was a large group of advocates of homosexuality, it was often treated as a type of apprenticeship, called wakashudo (the way of the young), with a younger man ‘‘learning’’ from an older man. Forms of pederasty like this were practiced by a few warrior cultures throughout history.
