The books of the Apocrypha are not included in the Holy Bible because God gave men discernment to know that they were gnostic writings and have no place in the Bible.

Which men? When? And Gnostic by what definition? I’ve never heard a definition of “Gnostic” that can possibly apply to any of the books in the Catholic OT canon. Those books are too early to be Gnostic, for starters.

What was funny was how Charles, our music director, said, “this is a song you will RARELY hear in the Church but it goes so well with our OT readings today from the liturgy that we decided to include it as our opening hymn.” I was looking around and most people had no clue what he was talking about or why it was “rarely” sung LOL…I pointed out the author of the tune to my wife. I actually think it’s a great song. It’s just ironic that the Church considered Luther a heretic and yet his music is in our hymnal, plain as day LOL.

Just to clarify things for Ginger and others, am I right that you are saying that all future sins are forgiven in advance?

I understand you to be saying the following

1. Salvation (having believed in Christ and having been born again) guarantees that we will hate sin and thus will not want to sin; but
2. Our sinful nature, which remains after we are born again, guarantees that in spite of our hatred of sin we will sometimes sin; yet
3. None of our sins affect our salvation

Matthew 10:22 at first glance can seem to imply works salvation, but we know through other scriptures that it is a free gift. What it actually shows is that their endurance marks them out to be true believers.

I have heard Baptist preachers say this many times.

Post the link to there statement of faith or book of discipline or whatever document declares it.

I’ve heard Catholics say a person can get to heaven without Jesus simply by dying while saving a child’s life.

I don’t claim the church teaches it just because a few Catholics don’t know their own faith. Post a link and prove the Baptist church teaches repentance is unecessry.

Never let it be said that there was no issue that could not be over-simplified!

Q. What was the main thing Luther set out to do?
A. End the immoral selling of indulgences sanctioned by the Pope.

Personally, while I think this German monk has several items on his agenda list (95 come to mind…) let’s just look at the sale of indulgences.

As you know, this was never the teaching of the CC, no Pope declared that this was the teaching of the CC and it was corrected.

If you were to proceed in a logical sequence - your next question would be:
Q. Why did Luther not stop when the selling of indulgences was stopped?
A. Because he was no longer interested in the CC. He was, however, interested in political power, marriage and being the center of attention in a Germany that was quite tired of sending money to Italy to build St. Peter’s.

I’m very sad for you, but you dont have any security because you dont trust the Lord Jesus Christ fully and that what he did was enough.
