Can I go to confession to confess 1 mortal sin and no venial sins? Also, since it will be Wednesday when I go to confession, can I leave the church right after or should I stay for the mass?
Yes, provided you have only committed 1 mortal sin. You do not have to confess venial sins. Can I go to confession to confess 1 mortal sin and no venial sins? Also, since it will be Wednesday when I go to confession, can I leave the church right after or should I stay for the mass?
whatever you ‘want’ but the priest may well explore that one sin that bit more with youCan I go to confession to confess 1 mortal sin and no venial sins? Also, since it will be Wednesday when I go to confession, can I leave the church right after or should I stay for the mass?
Funny all the distinctions, how do you know it is a mortal sin and venial sins. Can I go to confession to confess 1 mortal sin and no venial sins? Also, since it will be Wednesday when I go to confession, can I leave the church right after or should I stay for the mass?
There is no minimum on the number of sins you must confess. One mortal sin is more than reason enough to go to Confession. Can I go to confession to confess 1 mortal sin and no venial sins? Sir, I know when I commit a Mortal sin and Yes I can make distinctions between the 2…Funny all the distinctions, how do you know it is a mortal sin and venial sins.
Why dont you empty the bin: fast but empty…
Yes there is a minimum. There is a minimum of confessing one sin in Confession in order for the priest to give absolution. It can be mortal or venial. It can even be a sin that was already confessed before, but there is a minimum of one sin to be confessed. This may sound obvious, but there are some people who are so holy or advanced in their spiritual life that they aren’t committing sins, but rather imperfections. There is no minimum on the number of sins you must confess. They aren’t committing any sins? None even venial? This may sound obvious, but there are some people who are so holy or advanced in their spiritual life that they aren’t committing sins, but rather imperfections.
Normally – outside a special grace from God-- we will have some venial sins in our lives…They aren’t committing any sins? None even venial?
Correct. They aren’t committing any sins? None even venial?
Well, yes, one should confes at least one sin. I thought that went without saying. It would be a bit awkward to go into the Confessional and say “Bless me, Father, but I have not sinned. I just wanted to stop in and say hello.”Yes there is a minimum. There is a minimum of confessing one sin in Confession in order for the priest to give absolution. It can be mortal or venial. Also, given that it only takes one mortal sin to go to Hell and the fact that every night we go to sleep we don’t know we won’t die during the night and every day we live is another day we were spared death, even if one only has one mortal sin, they shouldn’t sit on it and wait to confess it.
Some people don’t confess actual sins, but imperfections. Some people confess everyone else’s sins but their own. I’m just reiterating what I have heard from priests talking about confession.Well, yes, one should confes at least one sin. I thought that went without saying. I don’t think the idea of being so holy and filled with grace that we’re not even committing venial sins is something that is likely to be in the realm of experience for 99.99999% of us. So I see no reason to confuse the OP.
And it is important to note --that if one does not have mortal sins – and one confesses imperfections --one needs to confess some *sin * as well (one may confess even a past confessed and absolved mortal sin or venial sin)Some people don’t confess actual sins, but imperfections. … I’m just reiterating what I have heard from priests talking about confession.
That’s what I was talking about in my first post. It’s also why it’s encouraged to finish off your confession with “for these and all the sins of my past life, especially those against X and X”. Doing so ensures the priest has sufficient matter for absolution. And it is important to note --that if one does not have mortal sins – and one confesses imperfections --one needs to confess some *sin * as well (one may confess even a past confessed and absolved mortal sin or venial sin)
There must be a sin that is confessed.
