I am to receive a Scapular for Easter and am to be Invested Easter Sunday. I already know the history of the Scapular – my problem lies in explaining it to others. I will return to school after break wearing it and I know I will receive lots of questions asking what it is. What is a short, concise answer I can give explaining what Our Lady’s Scapular is and why I wear it?

Things like:

“It reminds me each day to follow Jesus more closely than the day before.”

or

“It is a way of expressing my devotion to Jesus and his mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary.”

or

“It disposes me to receive God’s Grace more fully in my daily life, which I really need!”

Hope this helps!

I suppose you know that most people wear the scapular under their clothing. I wear the Miraculos Medal and am trying to decide if I should wear it outsiide, but I tend towards spiritual pride and think it is likely better to wear it under my clothing.

But wearing something outside does provide a visible witness to our Faith. Sorry for getting off-topic.

No problem! The short suggestions help. What average teenager wants a lecture on the Brown Scapular? I am still in the process of deciding if I should wear it over my clothing or not. It makes others curious and it’s a great conversation starter about devotion of faith.
