Short hair..modesty? Etc

I have long hair but it is driving me crazy! I was thinking how corinthians says long hair is good…but I remembered Nuns often have very short (though covered) hair. ??? Does God really care about something like that?

customs are not doctrine, even if some people act like they are. they can and do change and even lose their meaning or take on new ones.

if hair was a moral issue, the church would say something about it

don’t worry, short hair is definitely easier to manage, in general. I struggled with the same issues in the past
 
I would caution you that if you go short, make sure it still looks feminine. I made the mistake of cutting my hair short and I used to get called “Butch”, get mistaken for a lesbian, and a male. Given the way things are going, you don’t want to be mistaken for a transvestite going through transition. I can’t even be a woman with a deep voice without people assuming I’m a man in transition to becoming a woman.
 
I’m on the other side, a man who has long hair. No one has suggested that I need to cut it. I sing in the parish choir, I’m in formation with the Secular Franciscan Order, and everyone tells me that I would be a great deacon or priest. (I’ve been Catholic less than a year, so those things are a few years away before I can pursue them. ) God doesn’t care about your hair. I believe that God wants men to look masculine and women to look feminine, but you can do that with any length of hair.
 
I worked with a woman that escaped from China. She was not Christian at all, didn’t know anything about Christianity where she came from. However, in her culture, she said women with short hair were considered ‘trouble makers’ and rebels. Long hair was favored for women. Then she said it seems a lot of Canadian women have short hair. lol
 
There’s no “right” or “wrong” kind of hair, for women or men. Anyone can have whatever hair they want. Any style, any color. Personally, I love long hair on a woman (and I’m a woman and have always had long hair) Even some guys I think are nice-looking with hair that gently rests on the collar. Also, there isn’t “age appropriate” hair for women either. There’s nothing more natural and beautiful than a ninety-year-old lady with long silver strands.
 
As a teen, I was hoping this look would catch on, Persis Khambatta as Lt. Ilia on Star Trek: The Movie. Bald can be feminine.

I don’t think nuns cut their hair because it is holier to have short hair. They cut it for two reasons. One, because it is easier. Short hair you don’t need to style, dries quickly and doesn’t bunch up under your bandeau like you’re hiding horns. Two, it’s part of “killing yourself.” A lot of historical religious life entailed removing anything that was beautiful either from the body or the environment, so they cut their hair, wore plain clothes, lived in plain surroundings. You’ll notice that when a convent went bad these were among the first things to go. Someone once gave us a coloured tea towel and somehow it actually made it into the convent kitchen. I remember staring at it because I hadn’t seen anything so pretty in a long time, even hung it up specially. Pretty things were that rare, that a tea towel could be exciting.
