I just got my copy of Shorter Christian Prayer today and I’m having a hard time figuring out where we are. Just a guess, but, since we’re in the second week of advent, wouldn’t that mean we’re on Thursday, Week II on p. 160?

Thanks!👍

Actually today is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, so you will find specific readings elsewhere, toward the back of the book if I remember.

For Shorter Christian Prayer today, Dec. 8 yes, you would use the Psalms and Antiphons from Thursday, Week II, but with the rest from Dec. 8 in the Proper of Saints (Immaculate Conception). What’s not in Dec. 8, you take from Thursday in the Proper of Seasons for Advent.

I started with Shorter Christian Prayer and used it for several years. I think it the best way to get started. A couple of years ago I wanted more variety for the Feasts and Memorials, and the various seasons; so got a copy of Christian Prayer. However, Divineoffice.org now has that available on line. So if you get curious try that. I use it for the Office of Readings which is incomplete in Christian Prayer.

But take it easy; one step at a time. The purpose is to pray; not to get all the procedures.

Enjoy.

Agreed. That is why Shorter Christian Prayer does not employ very strict rubrics. But it is approved and truly the Divine Office
