I’ve recently got back into this abreviated form of the Divine Office and have a question for others who are using it. With last night’s evening prayer (Sunday Evenning I), are we supposed to now be on Week II, with the Easter week readings? Just want to make sure I’m on track. Thanks.

Funny thing I should find someone asking this question this morning.
Yesterday was my first day of praying the shorter prayer.
I took an educated guess (the book can seem a little confusing at a glance) and started with Sunday of the second week with Easter readings in the back.

From my memerory, yesterday had the best start and finish I ever experienced.

Thanks mysty101, glad to know fidelis and I are in sync with everyone else.

Yesterday was still the octave, so the antiphons & psalms were from Easter Sunday, but today we would normally start week II (except the Annunciation has been moved from good Friday) It does say this in the text of the “Christian Prayer”. This is the first year I am using it without the guide.

I do cheat, and check out with the Universalis site sometimes.

(Today is the solemnity of the Annunciation -Sunday week I )

General rule of thumb is the psalter goes according to the week of the season. In ordinary time, just divide the week by 4.

This morning, at laudes, it was quite funny. The ladies all stand/sit on the right side, and my friend and I didn’t mark the invitory- we get to that part, theboys start reciting, and we have no page. While looking, we just say the response, after months it is memorized! LOL “The Lord is God, the Mighty God, the Great King over all the Gods…” The new lady looked at us like we were insane (she was following us, and didn’t have the page either…" hehe!

I’m glad we are out of the octave, that was a LOT of page-flipping.

All you new people, stay with it! Like the rosary, once you figure it out, it is WONDERFUL. If you can possibly find a church near you which prays it in a group, as it is ment to be done, it is just captivating… 🙂

Wow, thanks for all the help guys. Because of my unusual working hours, I don’t have a group to say this with at this time, but this is the next best thing. Thanks again!

One more question (for now) I went to the Universalis website and while the calendar was right, I noticed the prescribed readings were different from what I am seeing in Week II in my Shorter Prayer. Is this correct? Are they showing the *Divine Office * rather than the SC?

Also, is anyone familiar with this site “My Spiritual Advisor”?:

Hi Fi,

Sorry, I didn’t see the question (too busy taking a beating in another thread)😉

Yesterday was the solemnity of the Annunciation. (I did mention this 2 posts back) Feasts use Sunday week one, which is why it is a good idea to check the calendar or even a daily missal.

Since last week was the octave of Easter, Sunday week 1 was used every day.

But don’t worry about it. There are not too many feasts and memorials can use either the common or the psalter. Besides you are not under the obligation to pray the hours, so whatever you pray is good.

OK; thanks!
