Shorts at Mass??

I would agree. If you found yourself in Manhattan in 1910 on a horridly hot and humid day, men would still have been wearing suits and bowlers. Women in long dresses and big hats. They wore the same inside of church.

I’m not sure that was smart in a practical sense but it sure is refreshing compared to the gym trunks, wife-beaters and shower sandals that some prefer to attend Mass in.

You’re absolutely right. But if their “ideals” tell them it’s OK to dress like a slob or a prositute for Mass then their ideals are in error. The real question becomes “what is the minmum required to attend the Mass.” That’s the $10.00 question. I think St. Pete’s in the Vatican has addressed this to some degree with a simple sign.

Topics like this seem to draw all the dissenters, stubborn and rude. It usually draws out the grumpy man inside of me because rather than discussing the implications of such things as non-conformance to a dress code for example, it turns into an insult throwing party. Not worth my time anymore.

Dissenting from what? The link you gave concerned modesty, not shorts. I do not think anyone is for immodesy. There is not Catholic Dress Code to dissent from.

I have no “point” to prove in what I said…I was only wondering…which is my progative. I don’t know for sure how much time you spent preparing your heart…but neither do you know about my faith or respect by how I dress…

I’m not equating wardrobe with the condition of one’s heart…that is a leap you made…not me. You can’t possibly tell by someone’s wardrobe…although there are people on this thread that have made that leap.

I would say…worry about your own heart and your OWN wardrobe…

Yes…St. Pete’s has a sign…and no where does it say no bare arms…or no jeans…😃

You know men can be wearing a shirt and slacks and still look like the dug them out of the wash pile…

So I assume my suggestion that all wear sackcloth/burlap cassocks/surplices wont work.🤷

I cannot understand the details a few give on the “immodest” dress they see at mass. How much attention is given to the Mass.

That’s going a little far. I don’t see any reason for it besides personal piety. If that’s in, then that’s fine. Just don’t tell other people that they can’t wear short-sleaves.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but adults didn’t wear shorts at all really back then, so it’s not really a comparison. It would be like us saying that women never wore pants to Mass 100 years ago, but that’s probably because women never wore pants at all.
 
It seems to me that this topic has gone full circle, what can be said has been said.

Nothing more to to be said on this apart from some bickering and rude comments.

I encourage you to watch this sermon and understand why and how important it is to dress properly at mass.

Here you are wrong. Fr Dominic Mary is one of priests saying the excactly same and his words word are valid. Mine are just an advice. I cannot speak of what the Lord thinks.

But i can advice to modesty and dignity. Would you want me to encourage to carelessness, lying and inmodest behaviour at mass instead?
No way, i cannot do that.
 
I do not mind if people wear short sleeved shirts to Mass. I would prefer they not:

*Show cleavage (women)
*Chest hair (men)
*Vulgarity, bad quotes and bad logos on shirts (both)
*Sports teams (unless you had no chance to change from them due to time - competition or practice)

Those types of shirts listed above are fine for activities outside church and Mass. But not for inside of it.
