Shorts at weekday Mass

The bare legs thing is amusing…there are lotsa bare legs in humid Brisbane and bare arms. Armpits are usually covered but some of the prettier younger women probably can get away with it. The younger men get away with cargo shorts (longish shorts). I frankly dislike seeing gorilla like men but WAIT… I do not go to Mass to look at what folk are wearing…I wear a longish skirt with bare ankles.

Hot sweaty people are busy fanning themselves at our church wondering sometimes if the priest and altar boys are going to get through Mass. The boys can exit if faint, but the priest only can take off the Chausable for his sermon.

The old folk sometimes are seen swigging from a water flask…( I guess it is water:D )

This Spring I’m planning to start attending weekday Mass on a daily basis. Since early mornings in Texas can be quite humid and hot, I was considering wearing shorts to Mass since I will be walking (1 1/2 miles each direction) to and from the church. The shorts and tops will be relatively dressy and in good taste.

I would never consider wearing shorts to Sunday Mass, but was wondering if you guys think it would be acceptable for weeday Mass.
Absolutely no difference between weekday and Sunday Masses. I too walk to Mass – in shorts. I pull-on either lightweight warm-up bottoms or hospital-scrub bottoms (in navy blue) before I enter church. Either pair roll-up to the size of a soda can…

Having lived in south Texas for 6 long years, I can tell you, it is hot and humid. I often say that when I die I’ll go to Heaven cause I’ve served my time in Texas. 😃 I know, bad joke, mea culpa. As far as Mass goes, Sunday Masses and weekday Masses are to my knowledge the same thing. Weekdays are a little shorter, but the Mass is still the Mass. I dress the same for both, but that is just my personal preferance.

What part of Texas are you in? Maybe you’ll get lucky and my good friends the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood :bigyikes: will be the ones in charge of the Mass. Then it won’t make a difference what you wear, how you act or if you are even Catholic for that matter. Just bring along copies of the Diary of Che Guevara and the Feminine Mystique and you will be right at home.

Maybe you could try some skorts–not the ones that look like shorts in the back (those are aweful) but the ones that go all the way around like a skirt but have shorts built into them…either that or perhaps the now popular ‘gaucho’ pants/shorts–they are loose fitting, you can find them in light fabrics and they are knee length and dressy…I think shorts are fine as long as they are not short-shorts or beat up…

Here in (relatively hot) Queensland (Australia), shorts, sandals, t-shirts (of a dressy-ish/‘smart casual’ type) are all quite common at the Eucharist.

I wore shorts, sandals & polo-shirt to the Eucharist this morning. Also, a lot of young people these days don’t even have shirt & tie & trousers etc. but only jeans & sneakers etc.

I may have been misleading when I started this thread. My point in walking and wearing short sto weekday Mass started with the fact that I need to walk for the exercise and I have a VERY large wardrobe of very nice shorts and matching top that I’ve never worn.

I suppose, I wouldn’t have started this thread if I didn’t have doubts about the appropriateness of shorts at Mass

In the meantime, I’ve joined a fitness club and will most likely drive to Mass wearing slacks and then go to the fitness club for the exercise on weekdays.

Thanks for all the great suggestions and (name removed by moderator)ut.
