Yesterday, Saturday, we discovered that my 8 year old daughter has head lice. I treated her and combed through her hair with a lice comb. Now it is Sunday morning and I am not sure if she should go to church. My two older children never had head lice, so this is my first experience with this? She also attends faith formation class after mass. I don’t want my daughter to expose lice to other children. I am not sure what to do.

Thank you!

No, please dont bring her to church until the problem is under control.

Church yes, class afterwards no.

There won’t be opportunity to spread the lice to someone else during mass, but a kid class is just asking for it.

I just read that head lice is considered a communicable disease. So I will be treating her as though she is ill and keeping her home from mass. Thank you for the advise!

👍

Lice can be spread very easily.

Please keep her home.

A child with head lice should have you coat his/her head with mayonaise, wrap it in plastic wrap, and leave it for 20 minutes or so, repaeating the process periodically until the problem is gone. Works like a champ with no chemical drwabacks. No kidding - look it up online!

No. She shouldn’t go anywhere. Lice is highly contagious.

Be sure you treat the environment (bedding, pillows, upholstery, stuffed animals, hats, gloves, coats, scarves) as well and don’t assume the rest of the family does not have them yet.

I’m sure her school has instructions for this, though.

Doesn’t work.

Use the proper medicine.

Hi friend, I was a hairdresser eons ago. And when we had someone sit in our chairs with lice or even treated for one day, (Sometimes takes several applications to rid of lice) we were regulated to Not work on that person’s hair. They can jump 18 feet and spread like wildfire. (We had to study lice in basic training)

And have you washed her bed linen and blankets and all washables she touched (her head has touched) in hot water? This has to be done also so family won’t get them.

I’m sorry this happened to you. It’s horrible to say the least. ~❤️~If you put equal parts of water and white vinegar on her hair after shampooing will help tremendously. Leave vinegar mixture on for two minutes making sure the vinegar gets down to the scalp. Then rinse. Vinegar kills. Do this to all members of the family. You will smell like a salad but hey, greens are good for you. lol 😃

God Bless you and hugs for this. Sheila

NOOOOOO!

I don’t mean to be rude, but honestly–no. I wouldn’t wish head lice on my worst enemy, let alone my fellow Christians.

I’m truly sorry your family has to go through the “head lice” mess. It’s so much work and so tiring, and sometimes, after you go through all the washings and meds, the head lice are still there. No fun for anyone.

Mayonaise absolutley did work for us on more than one kid. The trick was that it had to be repeated with respect to the life stages of the lice. If you stopped too soon, the eggs woud hatch and you get a whole new crop.

Read teh warning label on any over the counter medications for head lice, I promise it will make you want to try something - anything else. Scary, scary stuff!

Lice have been getting harder and harder to kill, so a lot of those home remedies that may have helped years ago aren’t guaranteed to do much now. If you wouldn’t send your child to school you should keep him or her home from church as well. A lot of church pews are plain wood, but can you imagine how quickly they could spread if the pews are padded in any way!? Eeeek! Nevertheless, even without padded pews, you do run the risk of having the lice jump to anyone that sits near you, stands near your child in the communion line, etc. A crowded Mass is a great place for lice to spread.

You child’s pediatrician will be able to recommend a good solution if you don’t have one already. They deal with this question fairly often.

Definitely keep child out of church and school. But pretty sure smothering in oil (mayo) always has-always will work. It is not something they can build immunity to. Beware the pediatricians solution. READ THE WARNINGS!

👍

First, even when people tried to treat lice with mayo, they left it on for 2 hours, not 20 minutes.

Now most people realize that the reason people have come up with medications is **because **mayo didn’t really work to begin with.

Keep her at home until the condition is definitely resolved.

I agree with you. So many people rush to buy chemical-laden treatments before giving the home remedies a chance. Then people sit around scratching thelr heads (no pun intended) on why there is such an increase in illness and diseases.🤷
