Should a non Catholic recieve a blessing and not Holy Communion?

I’m very new to learning about the Catholic faith. I have only attended 4 masses so far. I know i shouldnt take part in the Holy Communion at this time so havent.

However, when i went to the Christmas Mass there was an instruction in the brochure handed out that i could go for a blessing, bow my head and cross my chest with my arms when standing in front of the priest. This i did.

Am i allowed to do this at all masses please?
