Of course we are absolutely called to opposed gay marriage, but is it necessary to criminalize homosexual acts?

👍

Does being Catholic factor into the makeup of one’s thoughts?

Of course, it does.

So, being Catholic constitutes one’s bias, one’s opinion.

Good.

So, a Catholic, as a citizen, giving an opinion, on political legislation, could never, ever, under any circumstances, or specious arguments, or any dictum, or whatever, support, in any measure, homosexual marriage - because, to do so, is not to think Catholic.

This, of course, may or may not be true for those who are not Catholic.

But, for Catholics, any legalization of homosexual activity is anathema to the will of Christ.

Any homosexual activity.

🙂
Being Catholic is a factor that because of a theologic certainty as to the revealed truths causes one to make choices via the intellect to act.

Of course that assumes someone understands what theologic certainty is.

Being Catholic requires knowledge, understanding and Faith and because it is based on theologic certainty and revealed truths causes opinions to be biased according to the Will of God in generating an opinion.

Since God alone is good and since on our own we can do nothing without the grace of God, our assent to His Will in making our decisions may appear that we are good.

A Catholic, as a citizen, giving an opinion, on political legislation, could never, ever, under any circumstances, or specious arguments, or any dictum, or whatever, support, in any measure, homosexual marriage –if they have theologic certainty as to the revealed truths and assent to the Will of God because, to do so, is not to think as is the Will of God and would be contrary to Christianity.

This, of course, may or may not be true for those who are not Catholic who do not base their decisions on theologic certainty as to the revealed truths that cause action via the intellect to assent to the Will of God.

But, for Catholics, any legalization of homosexual activity is anathema to the will of Christ if they have theologic certainty as to the revealed truths and cause the intellect to assent to the Will of God.

Are we to say then that God has abandoned his people, by no means, for to them were given the utterance of Scripture, now the righteousness of God is being revealed.

We all know this?
I don’t know this.
Are those stats in the study?
If it’s true, then I imagine it would be true because they are made to feel as if they are bad or sinful by many people in this world, and therefore turn to drugs or addictions in an effort to cope. Not an healthy way to cope, for sure. But that’s what sometimes happens when people make you feel bad about yourself and treat you like you are less than.
I would suggest you ask ERRose to substantiate this claim with statistics. I do not know the we ERrose is talking about. What is true is that alcoihol and drug use not necessarily abuse is higher in this population, depression is higher, sexual activity not necessarily sexual orientation is associated with a higher rate of suicide and the incidence of anal cancer is 35/100,000 as compared to the general population around 2/100,000 and is the same as the incidence of cervical cancer in women.

While we may not all know those on this site now do know now.

Validation from society, or from institutions in society, cannot compensate for a lack of personal (self) validation, no matter how often those external validations are extended, and from what sources. In localities where homosexuals live in ultra-permissive and ultra-tolerant communities – socially and legislatively, and with every expressed desire of “equality” fulfilled – one often finds excessive and repeated attempts for further validation from external sources: demands for unique documents, demands for duplicative position papers and proclamations, demands for all kinds of public recognitions which will never result in personal happiness. Ultimately, the existential self is not subject to societal opinions, blessings, or rejections.
I believe that the poster InSearchofGrace has some studies and statistics regarding the negative effects of the lifestyle. I’m sure she’ll be happy to supply those. ERose may have them, too. A lack of “being made to feel bad about oneself” (due to living in an ultra-supportive community where most of your neighbors are also practicing the same lifestyle) does not result in less personal dysfunction. It hasn’t so far anyway (overall, in terms of percentages).

Below is the conclusion from this study that pulled from an estimated 35 sources of data.

The claim that stigma, prejudice, and victimization are responsible for the elevated mental health problems of homosexuals largely appears to be an empty claim and is unlikely to be proven.

Further, following is an abstract of a Dutch study, Suicidality and Sexual Orientation: Differences Between Men and Women in a General Population-Based Sample From The Netherlands by R de Graaf, T G M Sandfort and M ten Have. The study is interesting because Netherlands has the ‘honor’ of being the first country to legalize same-sex marriage (2001). I don’t think anybody can argue that it has the most open and most tolerant society in all of the countries in the West.

Homosexuality has been shown to be associated with suicidality and mental disorders. It is unclear whether homosexuality is related to suicidality, independently of mental disorders. This study assessed differences in lifetime symptoms of suicidality (death ideation, death wishes, suicide contemplation, and deliberate self-harm) between homosexual and heterosexual men and women, controlling for lifetime psychiatric morbidity. Interaction effects of age and the role of perceived discrimination were also examined. Data were collected on a representative sample of the Dutch population aged 18–64 years. Classification as heterosexual or homosexual was based upon reported sexual behavior in the preceding year. Of those sexually active, 2.8% of 2,878 men and 1.4% of 3,120 women had had same-sex partners. Homosexual men differed from their heterosexual counterparts on all four suicide symptoms, and on the sum total of the four symptoms; homosexual women only differed from heterosexual women on suicide contemplation. …Younger homosexuals were not at lower risk for suicidality than older homosexuals in comparison with their heterosexual counterparts. Among homosexual men, perceived discrimination was associated with suicidality. This study suggests that even in a country with a comparatively tolerant climate regarding homosexuality, homosexual men were at much higher risk for suicidality than heterosexual men. This relationship could not only be attributed to their higher psychiatric morbidity. …

FYI, the most recent stats from CDC: HIV among Gay, Bisexual and Other Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM)

and Health Risks Associated with Male Homosexual Behavior

The data, presented at CDC’s 2010 National STD Prevention Conference, found that the rate of new HIV diagnoses among men who have sex with men (MSM) is more than 44 times that of other men and more than 40 times that of women. The rate of primary and secondary syphilis among MSM is more than 46 times that of other men and more than 71 times that of women.
