That’s why I’m torn between going and staying! And once I go, I can’t just head home because I’m not enjoying my stay. And once I decide not to go, I’ll have to wait the week out for DH to come home. DH will be flying if I don’t go and will be driving if baby and I join him. Thanks for your response, by the way I feel fairly sure that you could find “ladies lounges” in or near restrooms just about everywhere for nursing (though it’s not the most conducive ambience; I remember someone once saying “how would YOU like to have your meals in a bathroom?”) That said, some of those places in Vegas are pretty amazing! I’m sure you could breastfeed discreetly so that no one would know (I did it all the time, all those years ago!) You likely wouldn’t have to go back to the room, unless you chose to for naptime, etc.I’m not sure if DH will get a stipend and for the trip in April, I doubt he’ll get any meal allowance since he’ll be in training all day and all meals for him will be covered in his training. In June, his breakfast and lunch only will be covered for himself.
I agree it’s a good idea to purchase food at the grocery store and cook if there will be a kitchen in the room. I guess I won’t know until we get there.
I don’t really have activities planned yet, but I was thinking more along the lines of window shopping and walking around if I’m not at the hotel. I currently stay home and indoors most of the time caring for my LO. If I go and spend time in the hotel room, I don’t know what I would do aside from interacting with LO if there’s no internet access available - read a book? Watch TV? At least with the internet, time seems to fly by faster
Also, I forgot to mention that LO is bf exclusively, meaning no bottles or pumped milk. So that said, I would have to expect to nurse every 2-3 hours while I’m out. That’s why it’s easier for me to stay indoors

I guess we both want to be able to go to bed at night together and not be hundreds of miles away from each other…Find out what hotel y’all will be at. Then request a suite. You may be able to work something out with his company that y’all will pay the difference between what he would get and the upgrade to a hotel. But if he travels quite a bit, he may have some hotel points to cash in. And suites usually have wireless internet included.

Secondly, 4-5 hours in a car with a four month old is not that bad. I did it all the time (and plan to with baby #4). Feed him/her right before you leave and you’ll probably only have to stop once halfway through for feeding and diaper. A bottlefed baby can generally make it the whole way (especially if you go at night since they sleep all night anyway).
If you have a small car, you could always reach around with one hand and bottle feed him/her while you drive…until your wife whacks you upside the head for doing it
But seriously, I think travelling with a one year old is actually harder. They have enough mobility to want to be moving everywhere and generally don’t sleep a lot like little babies do. Plus they still have really short attention spans. Therefore you hear a lot of screaming unless you get lucky or plan really well.

To me, DH is one of a kind and I’m really blessed. I have to agree that it might be easier to travel with this LO now as opposed to when he’s older. And you’re right - that’s what we would plan to do is feed before we leave, stop halfway after 2-3 hours of driving for a break and feed again, and then feed when we arrive at the hotel.Unfortunately, this one particular hotel his company is putting him in has wireless internet access available but at a surcharge (so it says on the site). We don’t want to have to pay for it and I can do without if that’s the case

Thanks for your reply and I know what you mean about the trip possibly being a getaway trip, however, DH did invite both me and baby. On one of the evenings, DH’s boss was kind enough to invite and treat all of us (baby included) to dinner at a nice restaurant in one of the nearby hotels so it all worked out.
Yes, I’m so glad I decided to go! It’s one of those opportune moments to take advantage of while we are still on #1 and while baby’s still young! Also, I’m really glad I brought along the co-sleeper. Was a godsend when I needed to put our LO down for a moment and somewhat helped baby feel at home away from home. Next trip, I think we’re looking into getting a simple, inexpensive Pack & Play playard since those seem a lot easier to pack and carry vs. disassembling and reassembling the co-sleeper. Luckily, I was able to schedule my outings each day so that I would nurse our LO, go out for 2-3 hours and return to the room in time for baby’s next feeding. Thanks for the tips!!Glad you decided to go. I’m glad I traveled with dh when I could- while dc #1 was a baby- because now with 4, it’s almost impossible.
I’d go with the cosleeper/pack & play if you don’t want the hotel crib. We have an old Graco pack & play and it is easy to fold and unfold.
Bring a couple of good nursing shirts, too (or easy-to-maneuver tanks underneath other shirts) so that you can easily nurse when you’re out and about. And sunscreen!

This trip, we didn’t make it to the pool, but I have to say that I’m so glad I brought along the co-sleeper and the exersaucer! And you’re right - there will come a time when baby is older or when we’re with more than one child where it won’t be as easy or possible to join DH on his trips so I’m so happy I made the decision to go on this one! It was a good experience to be with DH on his travel and the week surprisingly went by faster than I expected! Thank you for your post and for the suggestions!You might check with the hotel before you go to see what type of “cribs” they provide and if there is a charge. Some hotels do not charge for cribs and often the crib provided is a pack and play. I often bring our own, but I have also found they often provide free a clean, safe alternative. Also make sure they can guarantee you it will be there and it is not first come- first serve. I would take the exersaucer if your child is still in it by then. Remember swim diapers if you’ll be taking a dip. Some hotel pools require a plastic swim diaper in addition to the disposable type.
I loved traveling with DH when my kids were not in school. I went to some really boring places and some very interesting. We always enjoyed our time together even if I had to spend day “hostage” in the hotel with the baby, reading, watching t.v and hotel movies., walking the grounds. Now, with six kids, I would love to go, but not really possible with our obligations as parents. Enjoy this time while you can. Soon enough, you won’t be able to join him for this fun family time.
For your DH, how wonderful it will be to have you with him. My DH misses all of us tremendously when he is gone, even though I ask him when he returns if he enjoyed his “vacation”
Forgot to bring a stroller so had to carry the little one the whole time, our arms hurt alot I hope it is when it would be snowing because we live in South-Central Texas and it doesn’t snow here:thumbsup:
