Bear in mind that from the Reformation to the Enlightenment, particularly in Germany, abortion & ‘making someone infertile’ was punished with death (in Germany, unmarried women could be tortured into confessing if they were suspected of abortion). I’ve heard of a Brazilian woman who was burned at stake for using witchcraft to make her husband infertile.
