What do you all think? I think yes, because he in effect “owns” all of who we are and all of what we do.

Furthermore, what do the saints say about it (or St. Augustine’s City of God)?

Also, Christ was in civil affairs in Catholic Europe in the 1400s, correct?

Psalms, chapter 24

A psalm of David.
  1. The earth is the LORD’s and all it holds,
the world and those who dwell in it.

Peace

He is the King of kings, so He rules over all earthly rulers as well. I like to put it this way: we are to give God what is God’s and Caesar what is Caesar’s, but that doesn’t mean Caesar is exempt from giving God what is God’s.

Christ must must be loved and obeyed at all times, including government.

Here’s an encyclical of Pope Pius XI instituting the Feast of Christ the King which provides a good explanation on this very topic.

Quas Primas

Also, here’s a very prophetic statement from an encyclical of Bl. Pius IX.

Quanta Cura
Bl. Pius IX:
  1. And, since where religion has been removed from civil society, and the doctrine and authority of divine revelation repudiated, the genuine notion itself of justice and human right is darkened and lost, and the place of true justice and legitimate right is supplied by material force, thence it appears why it is that some, utterly neglecting and disregarding the surest principles of sound reason, dare to proclaim that “the people’s will, manifested by what is called public opinion or in some other way, constitutes a supreme law, free from all divine and human control; and that in the political order accomplished facts, from the very circumstance that they are accomplished, have the force of right.” But who, does not see and clearly perceive that human society, when set loose from the bonds of religion and true justice, can have, in truth, no other end than the purpose of obtaining and amassing wealth, and that (society under such circumstances) follows no other law in its actions, except the unchastened desire of ministering to its own pleasure and interests?
Finally, according to the Second Vatican Council’s Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity, it is especially the laities job to Christianize civil society:

Apostolicam Actuositatem
Vatican II:
  1. The apostolate in the social milieu, that is, the effort to infuse a Christian spirit into the mentality, customs, laws, and structures of the community in which one lives, is so much the duty and responsibility of the laity that it can never be performed properly by others.

  1. To answer that question, have a look around the globe at the countries that are not Christian.
  2. How much suffering visits the people of a country when the civil authorities are corrupt?
  3. What would a Christian bring to government?
Honesty, integrity, excellent work ethic, compassion.
We are standing on the shoulders of Christian men and women who laid the foundations of our countries, and we are enjoying the view. We are so much the same as the people in the Old Testament, when things are tough, we cry out to God to help us. Once we are well fed and comfortable, God is forgotten, and the cycle begins again.

I think that we have all seen enough corrupt “Christians” in government to know that #3 is not necessarily true…

That said - my answer to the OP’s question is this.

Christ should be in our hearts and in everything we do…and everything we are.
If we do this and if we are then involved in civil affairs…the Christ will be involved in civil affairs. It’s really that simple…

Peace

Amen Genisis 315, and the people of the US need to wake up to what it means for it to be , One nation under God, verse the US to fall to be a godless directed civilization, the Laity as you pointed out this rests on.

Toally ignorant to even the “saying” of, seperation of church and state those who claim to be educated are ignorant to.

Government and Church work hand in hand, for if people really want Peace, those that follow Jesus will find peace, in his Covenant…
its the central mind of what God wants is all God, and to those that know, its recognized what God calls for in the covenant and promises that only the Catholic church passes down in Truth comes to bring what is defined by the three words,
Intergrity, Clarity, and Harmony…
Code:
(penny, those are the complete three that sum it up.. know them.
Follow Jesus and what that callls for, and for all then comes that which brings peace, true freedom that alows for a civlilization in its right mind…

the laity, has a huge obligation to reeducate itself to call people back to that which calls for true freedom, not this pick and chose what we want to hear religion of failure and false freedom.

if people did know this, today fictional economics would not be stood for, socialism, borrowing of money, unjustified war, usary, slavery of humans and hunger due to greed and gluttony, lack of not food, but distribution., aristocratic of hoarding of wealth, . and ect.
