I see a lot of evangelicals saying this is demon worship. Some say it’s just relaxing healthy exercise. What are the thoughts of the people here?

It’s really good for Hindus.
“Yoga is a series of physical, mental and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India. Yoga is one of the six Astika (orthodox) schools of Hindu philosophical traditions.”

Those who are sensitive to the spiritual realm often urge caution when practicing non-Christian spirituality, even if it only seems physical. It is not what we see that can be risky, but what we do not see.

If someone is just using the poses for stretching and exercise, but not saying prayers or anything that are not Catholic, it is not a problem.

Check the search feature for many threads that already discussed this if you want further views. 🙂

Do a search on yoga on this forum. Many many pages dealing with it. I will only add that it helps my sciatic pain.

I did do the research, thank you. Upon doing it I realized I didn’t need to have this up, but didn’t know how to delete this thread.

I practiced yoga for 10 years, I know all the different kinds and what they do. When I came back into Christianity I was first following Evangelical Protestants who claimed we are all going to hell, so I just wanted to see what the Catholics, who seem more intelligent and holistic about things (not to mention the true church) say. I downloaded some things from the Vatican that does not condemn the practice as evangelicals do — I think it said something like we can respect what is holy In other religions but not deny the true faith. I practice some postures to move blood around and energize my body. It really does shift the mind to a better state, though any exercise of the body does. Postures are extremely effective for this.

A lot of yoga brought to the west has very little connection to the way it’s supposed to be done. It’s like how zumba butchers salsa dancing. No real salsa dancing is in there, but it’s good exercise.

Any chanting and the oneness talk though I feel is to be avoided.

Thank you! I’m new to the forum and didn’t realize this was asked already and I don’t know how to delete it! 🙂

My physical therapist showed me a few stretches and didn’t know they were yoga stretches. Something are just universal. Of course not Salsa. Zumba looks like fun but I have never done it.

No problem in asking. I only suggested using the search because you will have lots to read! 🙂

My very first experience ever doing any sort of yoga and deep breathing and meditating exercises was back in elementary school and it was taught during PE by… Sister Marjorie. Yep. A nun. LOL.

No, definitely not. Look up the origins of yoga. If you want to exercise due to some physical problem, consult a doctor or physical therapist. Some people cannot exercise or do certain exercises, which is why there are medical professionals who can advise you.
