While our immigration laws may need to be modified to allow for the streamlining of the reunification of family members of immigrants, the reality is that the Sheriff has a job of of enforcing existing laws. There is no reason the Church should interfere with a hotline that provides information about illegal activity.

It is just for a nation to protect itself. It is just for a nation to secure its borders. Many immigrants come here to build our nation and make it better but many also come here and cause problems. Its the Sheriff’s job to control the problems, and arrest the problem makers.

The article referenced unidentified “faith based” organizations and while that might indicate that individual priests or ministers are involved such a general characterization would include any organization that claimed any identification with any religion. That there are “faith based” groups opposing efforts to control illegal immigration is unsurprising.

The Church should be in NO WAY involved with the illegal immigration issue until it stops encouraging citizens (or lack thereof) to break the law.

I went and read the article. I think the sheriff has the correct idea. I am against illegal immigration. My grandparents came here legally. They assimulated into the culture bringing in new “flavor” for the melting pot. I don’t feel the immigrants-whether illegal or not-want to assimulate, they want us to change to them. I think if you add this to the fact we do have a large illegal immigrant population, this is why so many people are against helping them. I do not think the church should be involved with illegal immigration. I think the church should actively encourage, especially the illegal Mexicans, to stay and change their country.

I understand how the churches gets involved. They live in community and people come to them for help. Often they run food kitchens, etc. They are pulled in.

I was outside an abortion clinic when a young mother came in for an abortion. This was her fifth child and she was talked out of the abortion.

The problem was she needed rent money. Many, many other things were done to help her keep the pregnancy. Her husband was illegal. He had come to the US through Canada from a Hispanic Country.

That wasn’t the end. She had the child and then got pregnant again with twins. I could not believe it. So again it was either help her or she would abort the twins.

Though illegal, I couldn’t turn her husband in because I had given her my word I would help her.

Something needs to be done to close the borders.

I will help anyone here that needs food or clothing. I won’t protect or turn them in. I feel like the govt. has given the illegals a mixed message by not finding them on their own. Anyone who has owed the govt. and extra $5. from income tax knows that they know where everyone is, what they are paying, and if they are legal. For the life of me I don’t understand why they can’t fix the problem. There is such stupidity in our governmental programs it isn’t even funny. Should the churches formally march or lobby for the illegals. I really don’t think so. I think they need to stay in the business of souls. Just my opinoin! :twocents:

“For the life of me I don’t understand why they can’t fix the problem.”

Well, Fitz, do you recognize the exploitation and cheap labor that these workers represent? Why do you think the gov’t and their corporate cronies are sitting on their hands??? Not too difficult to understand when you think about who’s gaining here…is it??🤷
