Should faithful Catholics be concerned about "The Muppets"?

I watched Muppet stuff quite a bit while growing up, but I’m scared that this upcoming series might be morally offensive. Um, should viewers expect to see homosexual Muppets on the show?

I don’t know about homosexual Muppets, but I do think this will be an Adult show. Not for children, and I wouldn’t include your teen either.

I think it’s literally meant for people who grew up with Muppets when they were kids and who are no adults.

I don’t believe this is intended to be a family show (though I would not be surprised it it’s marketed that way, esp since it has an 8PM time slot)
 
I did not see any references to a homosexual Muppet; why do you think there might be one?
 
I don’t see any reason to think there would be a homosexual muppet, although I didn’t think the video was very funny. My daughter is one and she loves the Muppets. We watch Muppet songs and videos all the time on Youtube, but I don’t think she would find this funny at all.
 
I ain’t sure about this new version of the muppets, I prefer them in the threatre and having story lines aimed at children rather than adults, it just spoils it for me and I’m an adult!! lol

Plus the animal/ human relationship theme has something about it that just isn’t right…:eek:
 
I get the gay reference. It is when Kermit is in the car talking about how the band is always happy and he says “legally now.” :rolleyes: I snorted when he said it.
I’ll probably at least watch the first episode. Kermit in the meeting even says that it is geared towards adults, which most primetime TV shows are, if you think about it. 🤷
 
IIRC, it was back in the '90s when Bert and Ernie were rumored to be homosexual. Um, is it true that Sesame Street has pushed the homosexual agenda in recent years? sigh

Not as far as I’ve seen. It seems to me that the human characters have been mostly phased out of Seseme Street and 90% of the show is just “Elmo” shrieking. I miss the old show.

That sounds more like marijuana than homosexuality to me.
 
I haven’t see the video you’re talking about, but iff the band referenced is Dr. Teeth and his Electric Mayhem, I’m pretty sure a marijuana reference IS more likely. They were depicted as a typical '60s rock band.

I decided we’d be ignoring this incarnation of The Muppets when Miss Piggy stated in an interview that she’s a pro-abortion feminist. If that’s the direction they want to take the franchise, they can go that way without me or my kids.
 
I just got done watching the first episode and I feel pretty confident it will be a moot point very quickly-the first episode was bad. I’m talking seriously painful - like an 11 on that scale in the doctor’s office painful. I apologized to my kids for subjecting them to that. I suspect it will be one of the first cancellations of the new tv season.

I think the two grumps called it right in the promo towards the end for the next show called Fresh Off the Boat-the Muppets is definitely a sinking ship. I grew up with the original, and this is borderline blasphemy to the original’s memory. Hensen is rolling over in his grave.

Left coasters-watch something else! Anything!

I can’t get that half-hour of my life back.
 
I watched it last night and was surprised and disappointed by the incidences of “adult humor”
in it. It’s on at 7:00 P.M. in the Midwest, early enough for small children to be watching. I greatly prefer the original Muppet Show that was on in the 80’s.
 
The Muppets have always had a dose of adult humor. As did the Flintstones, Rocky and Bullwinkle, even Bugs Bunny.

Most is so far above small children, it probably doesn’t matter. However, starting about 10 (depending on what they learn from schoolmates), you may want to watch any show before you let pre-teens and teens watch them.

As I remember it, the adult humor was more subtle. There was nothing subtle about Kermit’s “cross promotion”…
 
I’ve read that the organization One Million Moms has threatened to boycott ABC if the network doesn’t cancel “The Muppets.”
I wouldn’t go so far as to demand the show’s cancellation–I would just insist that the people responsible for “The Muppets” clean up their act. If more parents would contact the network, the network might just listen.
