Should faithful Catholics be concerned about "The Muppets"?

There is a brutal review of the show in The Guardian:

My favorite bit: "What were previously sly winks to a grownup audience are now grotesque full-body grimaces, delivered with depressing sledgehammer brutality. In one scene, Animal laments his consequence-free promiscuity. In another, Zoot from The Electric Mayhem is outed as an alcoholic. And then, most heartbreakingly of all, there’s Kermit.

This version of Kermit is absolutely unrecognisable from anything that’s ever come before. This Kermit badmouths fellow celebrities, openly discusses his sex life and, at one point, describes his life as “a living hell”. That’s not who Kermit is. Kermit is the perennial wide-eyed optimist, the figure who grounds the chaos around him in sincerity. Kermit is the dreamer who believes in the power of people. He’s the one who sings The Rainbow Connection. He is most definitely not the stress-eating, coffee-drinking executive that The Muppets paints him as. It physically hurts to see what ABC have done to him."

My kids watch horror and action movies all the time. They played “violent” video games since they were big enough to hold a controller. But I wouldn’t let them watch the muppets. They encourage degeneracy and weakness. Plus why should i let my white sons watch a show that are racists towards them?

Have you seen the show? Yes it a nod to the generation growing up with the Muppets and I found the show to be funny. It has a feel of 30 Rock or something like them. Also how in the world is them asking for people of different ethnicities being “racist”? Seriously how do you come up with such a wild thought?

I don’t know about homosexual Muppets, but I do think this will be an Adult show. Not for children, and I wouldn’t include your teen either.

I think it’s literally meant for people who grew up with Muppets when they were kids and who are no adults.

I don’t believe this is intended to be a family show (though I would not be surprised it it’s marketed that way, esp since it has an 8PM time slot)

I think you’re exactly right about the target audience. This is not in any way geared towards kids.

In a sense, it is along the same lines as what ABC has done with “Once Upon a Time”. In that show, they are taking all these characters from the Disney “kid’s movies” and putting them in a show that is not for kids but geared towards those who grew up watching the characters.

Of course, this is different in that it utilizes the same medium (i.e. puppets) as the original, child-friendly source material. That makes it much more difficult to really recognize the distinction.

I only caught a minute of it, which was enough to realize it definitely was not for kids. Apparently, I missed some of the more choice exchanges from what people have mentioned above. Did Miss Piggy really say she was pro-choice? That’s pretty bad!

Yeah, I won’t be surprised when this one gets cancelled.

Kermit and Piggy were on Dancing with the Stars last night. Do any CAF members think that show has pushed the homosexual agenda to some extent?
