i wanted to see what everyone’s opinion on this is because of the hot topic on CAF here about sspx bishop williamson’s attitude towards it is. so here goes, cast your vote and feel free to comment, but please, keep it charitable:)

There are several women who already are, doctors of the Church. And this was quite awhile back.

Who is this “Bishop” Williamson? Is he related to Milingo? I am offended that an SSPX bishop would say such heretical things.

As already stated, unless one is totally ignorant of the fact-

There are female doctors of the Church.

Its not up for debate, IT IS

:yup: St. Catherine of Siena, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Therese of Lisieux

That anyone should even question the three women who have been named doctors of the Church is amazing. Prejudice comes in many colors.

It sounds as if it were another issue of form over substance. Do they (these 3) lead us closer to Christ? have they had an impact similar to others - men - who have been anmed Doctors of the Church?

Anyone familiar with any one of the three should be able to anser that positively; and that should suffice to end the conversation.

bishop williamson is one of the 4 bishops consecrated without a papal mandate by arch bishop lefebvre. he is also excommunicated with the archbishop and the 3 other bishops. iam also extremely offended by his attitude. i polled people here because i want to see in a poll the stats here of how many agree or disagree with him.

Do you have some sort of link supporting his view on women doctors of the church?

EDIT: Found one! wdtprs.com/blog/2007/10/sspx-bp-williamson-opposed-to-female-doctors-of-the-church-are-his-reasons-good/

Yes, because the Church has already declared several female saints as doctors of the Church.

I voted “other”. The only consideration is what the church says about St. Paul’s advice. I don’t care what others think because it really doesn’t matter.

Okay. I need clarity, as I am not the brightest lightbulb here.

Are there, or are there not female doctors of the Church?

Yes, absolutely!

All you need to do, for example, is to put St Teresa of Avila’s writings alongside those of St John of the Cross to see how equally brilliant they both were, very much in tune with each other and perfectly complementary. Like two sides of a coin.

So much would be lost if she WASN’T acknowledged as fully his equal.

I am sorry if this sounds “uncharitable” (term used wayyyy too much here)

But how dare anyone claim there are not female doctors of the Church?

By what authority do they speak?

Little Flower is forgotten too?

i SMELL ROSES NOW

that link is the one that is the hot topic here. because i oppose his attitude, i wanted to do a poll and see what others have to say about it. either agree, or disagree. if they agree, why? if not, why not?
Does not sound so “HOT”

unless…

One likes to tempt the fires of HELL

And that is HOT baby.

There are three female Doctors of the Church. St. Catherine is known for her courage in speaking to and advising many especially priests, bishops, and a pope. She was self taught in both reading and writing. Some of her writings have very unusual style.

St. Theresa of Avilla was a wonderful leader and teacher of prayer and was a magnificent mystic.

St. Theresa of the Little Flower was only 24 when she died but was a towering example of devotion to our Lord.

I still wonder if St. Paul’s teaching has application here.

What do you wonder about?

By the way, I am not being snarky here. You are in my eyes, a person I hold in deep regard. I am merely asking you to not be so vauge, as you are a teacher. Teach us.
