Hi everyone. Would it be ok to ask a Mormon to pray for me considering the fact that they have an incorrect view of the Trinity? I am not sure if I have asked this before or not but if I have, I apologize for the repeat question. 😊

Yes, I would believe that God will hear the prayers of Mormons even withstanding their distortion of His nature. I would think that God would hear the prayers of all faiths as long as they are praying to the almighty and eternal God and not some pagan false god…teachccd

Ask a Mormon to pray for me? I’d like to say ā€œsure, no problem.ā€ In general I don’t ask someone’s denomination or church membership credentials before asking for or offering prayers. And a Mormon still believes in God, although with a very (to my understanding) distorted perspective. For that matter, I would also consider the Muslims to have a distorted perspective, but I would not be troubled to have Muslims pray for me.

Of course, that ā€œno problemā€ would have to be qualified to say that they pray for what I am asking for, and not pray that I receive spiritual ā€œenlightenmentā€ and abandon the Church.

Ask a Mormon to pray with me? No. Period. We can not unite in prayer because we have no unity in our understanding of who or what God is. It’s much deeper than just a division of churches worshipping the same God. I can not join them in worship.

I also would avoid praying with or asking for any prayer from someone known to be a complete unbeliever in the One True God, such as a wiccan or a Hindu. That would be a tacit acknowledgement of respect for whatever or whomever they consider to be a deity, and that I can not do. From a human respect position I would however peaceably allow them the chance to pray unmolested, such as what was done at the all-faiths community prayer service in the baseball stadium after 9/11/01.

Oh ok thanks everyone! I do have a slightly related question concerning the Mormons though. The fact that their view of the Trinity is distorted means that they are not actually praying to the true God right? 🤷

Well only the true God will hear their prayers. You may think that I am a 5’ 6" blonde woman with blue eyes (I am an Italian man with dark…o.k. gray hair) but if you call my name I will hear you regardless of your perception of me. Mormons believe in a multiplicity of gods. They believe that God was once a man and that we can all become gods. While we do not recognize their baptism because they believe the Trinity as including three gods, I would think that they still have a connection with the one true almighty God. They utilize the King James version of Scripture along with their other revelations.

Maybe I need clarification since we are dealing with a severe misconception of the nature of God…teachccd
