Hey everyone. I have several health issues going on now. They include: a urinary tract infection, a possibly cancerous mole, severe depression, and stomach issues. Do you think I should ask for the Anointing of the Sick or are my issues not serious enough to call for this sacrament?

Your priest would be the best one to advise you. Give him a call and, if he thinks it’s appropriate, you can set a time for the sacrament.

I would, if I were you.

I was in the hospital for observation. I had lost two-thirds of my blood, still the reason for the loss is unknown. But I digress.

My priest came and gave me the Sacrament. I was not considered to be facing impending death, but in a frightening situation. So, I believe it is up to the priest as to what is considered serious enough. Either way you recovery is in my prayers.

There are two problems in answering your question. We are not able to judge how serious your medical conditions are. The prænotanda to the rite say the illness must be serious. The second problem is we’re not the priest who would use his discretion to decide whether to anoint you. You really need to pose this question to your priest.
