I’m just wondering, I have this same debate in my head over and over, and its usually after drinking a little too much or having a few days of brews, I’m not sure if I should be a drinker, or if I should give it up altogether, I can’t just have one or two it seems, its just not me, I like getting hammered, thats the truth of it, but is there soemthing wrong in that, etc etc,

i just need some catholic friendly advice, please dont make obvious statements just need some advice

It is a mortal sin to get drunk. If drinking in itself is a near occasion of sin for you, you should give it up entirely.

I would suggest you bring the particulars of this to a priest.

If you continuously have this debate, it’s a problem.
As others have said in one of your other thread, if you have to ask, you need to stop.

If you come from a family with an alcoholic parent, it should be even more of a concern.
You would know what it does. You would know what it’s like to have to live like that.

Why would you want to risk repeating the same mistake? If the only way you can have fun is to drink, you have a problem that needs psychological help, and not be adding to your problem through alcohol.

If you have a tendency to overdrink, if it creates a problem for you, give it up. You don’t need it, empty calories.

This. My deceased first husband was an alcoholic. He thought he could handle it. It ruined his life, our lives, and nearly destroyed my daughters.
You asked, I’m telling you.
STOP GETTING HAMMERED. In fact, give it up entirely if you can’t control your consumption. It really has nothing to offer you except problems.
There’s a reason why people drink water and iced tea. If you have to ask…you’re already in a bad place. Don’t risk a happy marriage, a nice girlfriend, or a relationship with your loved ones. Unemployment. Health issues. Personality problems.
The list goes on and on…
Make the mature choice.
Lots of people live without abusing alcohol. You need to join those ranks.

Quit. If it’s doing you no good, and causing mental anguish, it seems to not even be uplifting your spirit… so why bother

My father-in-law used to like a beer once in a while, especially those hot summer days. I never noticed but my mother-in-law never had a beer herself. I just thought she didn’t care for it. One day my fil said that she drank beer before and realized she liked it too much. She made the smart decision to stay away from it. That was smart for her, for her marriage, for her family.
I wish my mother had made that decision. Because of living with my alcoholic parent, I decided not to drink. Likely saved myself a lot of grief over the years.

This is your kryptonite. Do the smart thing, which you’ve decided today. May God strengthen you in this decision today.

OP, how are you doing these days?

Prayers offered for you just now.
