If you have iTunes, I would encourage you to listen to Matt Fradd’s recent podcast on scrupulosity. One form of scrupulosity involves holding yourself responsible for things that aren’t your job.
Sometimes it’s worth asking about things, but you also have to realize that you don’t have the power to make sure that everyone else does what they ought to do. I have asked questions at times about concerns I have had, and the pastor has said, “You’re right – that shouldn’t be done that way. I will talk to so-and-so.” On other occasions, he has said, “I think this is okay, because …” He is a friend of mine in addition to being my pastor, and I respect that certain decisions are his to make. I am aware that at times he may even make the wrong decisions, but again, he is the pastor, not I.
