Ok i am unbaptized and so i cannot go to confession…i know once im baptized alllll my sins will be washed away! Praise God! But for the time being i still commit mortal/venial sins. So this is what ive been doing: just confessing all my sins to God and asking him to forgive me. Is that ok? I do this quite a bit. Also can i do this after im baptized? I just like to know that if i died i have asked for Gods mercy?

People who aren’t able to go to confession or haven’t been baptized yet, but are still doing their best to get those sacraments and begging God for forgiveness, can still be forgiven. So it’s a good idea! And keep it up, it will be a wonderful feeling once you’ve got the sacraments! 🙂

Look no further than to the Thief on the Cross to whom Jesus said “Today you will be with me in paradise.”

If you happened to die between now and your Baptism (God forbid), your desire for baptism would make it (at least by our understanding) as if you had been baptized.

Also, I think your desire to be Catholic would make you eligible for receiving Extreme Unction, including the Last Rights, which I believe also includes forgiveness of sins. I could be wrong, so someone more knowledgeable feel free to step in.

I don’t think confessing our sins to God and asking for his forgiveness and help in avoiding future sin is ever a bad thing, baptized or no. The only bad thing would be for someone to refuse to avail themselves of the sacrament of reconciliation after they were able to receive it.

I know I have done so frequently not being able to access confession yet regularly as well (I am a candidate but we don’t go as a group until towards the end of lent).

Prayers for you on your journey, please pray for me as well!👍

Yes, if it is known that someone who is dying wanted to enter the Church, he can be baptized and given Extreme Unction (Last Rites).

You should have something in yoir wallet explaining this. Many Catholics carry a card saying they are Catholic so if they are in an accident, a priest will be called. You could have something similar explaining that you are not baptized so the priest will baptize you first.

Hopefully however you will be able to enter the Church in the regular way!

I think your prayers asking for forgiveness are wonderful and the more you pray the closer you will be to God 🙂

Well, this is nice to read, given my circuitous issues getting into RCIA…

I couldn’t imagine not being forgiven with sincere desire and intent.

Yes, don’t let it get you down! God knows our intent, even if you’re having trouble getting into RCIA. But I hope you’re able to eventually. 🙂

Thank you.
I must rely on this, in a way, because I have been trying since November. November !
I am begining to think there is a Divine reason for this, because humanly, it just doesn’t make sense. And I was not challenged in my Faith til this obstacle, oddly enough.

MaeganFlinchum1, I am glad for you and your efforts…🙂

Until you are able to be baptised and confess your sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and indeed even after that, telling God directly that you’re sorry is great, but when you finially can recieve the Sacraments, you should.

We all agree that baptism of desire is the legitimate teaching of the Church. But the thief on the cross may not be a great example of that.
  1. How do we know he was not baptized?
  2. Some believe that the Trinitarian formula did not exist before the Resurrection when Jesus said to use it. It could be argued that even the baptism that Jesus and his disciples used before the Resurrection was the baptism of John which would not have been salvific.
So he could have been baptized. Or perhaps salvific baptism was not instituted during his life.

Oh I will!
