You could just give it up during Advent and see what you think of it afterwards

Thank you all everyone. I just wanted your thoughts on this topic. Again, I’m not here to step on anyone’s toes and not want any smoke.

Oh boy… Kamen Raider Black was was one of the joys of my childhood.

Was it fun and pleasant to my senses and passions? Yes.

Was it good to my spiritual life? Definitely not.

Trust me. Been there, done that. Not cool.

I never said that. The op has a question and asked our opinion. By the length and detail of the post I think that if the op has to ask this question then there is a problem and the op should move on from a show that is causing moral strife.

It could be that the show is particularly morally questionable, but it could also be that OP is overthinking it and toeing the line of scrupulosity.

And either way the problem is solved by not watching it! Hence my opinion.

No, if he’s overthinking things and trending towards scrupulosity the answer is to back away from that type of thinking, not feed it by assuming that it must be correct and he needs to avoid something potentially harmless.

Saying “if you’re conflicted about it, it must be bad” only works if someone has a well developed conscience and sense of discernment. The fact that he wrote us a novel analyzing some random tv show suggests that he’s more of the overly anxious/prone to overthinking/scrupulous type.

But that’s not really the purpose of this forum. We can’t treat those things or even really play the part of a properly formed conscience. My advice is sound as would be seek the counsel of a spiritual advisor or in the case of a minor, parents. The show appears to be a children’s show not unlike “power rangers”. I don’t know the person and neither do you, so we can’t really guide in the ways of whatever spirituality or underlying themes might be problematic for the poster. That’s why a simple answer of don’t watch it is sufficient for online impersonal forums with stranger regardless of if the poster is scrupulous or just sound in questioning it. When we say things like, “ sounds ok” or “you are scrupulous” about something that we cannot possibly be in a position to know or have proper spiritual positions of authority, what we really are saying is, it’s fine and if it’s not I take that upon my own soul by suggesting otherwise. And that is not wise to do spiritually for you or I. Nor are we trained in OCD treatment of scrupulocity. So the sound advice is “don’t watch it”. It’s also shorter than writing all this out.

Many CAFers, over the years, would have benefited from reading a wonderful essay by a brilliant devout Catholic… Tolkien’s “On Faerie Stories”. In short? Fairy tales/fantasy/fiction CAN indeed be of benefit.

Japanese people are loved by God as much as anybody else in the world
Never said otherwise. But their popular media, at least what tends to make it to the west, is cancerous to the soul. Weebs are cringiest people on earth, and it’s better to avoid such content all together. . . .
So here’s your opportunity to clarify. You meant ‘Avoid Japanese popular media’ and not all things Japanese. Is that correct?
