I mean, it’s up to you.

You can find the Catechism posted numerous places online, though, and it’s a lot more easy to navigate virtually since you can search for exact paragraph numbers, phrases, words, etc. Also, it’s free!

Thanks passus.
I just felt it would be easier to have a copy for reference when I am away from my computer and struggling with something.

I have one and I would reccomend it. The one I have has a fairly comprehensive index, so looking stuff up isn’t usually that hard.

I absolutely recommend it. I have a copy of the Catechism and it outlines the faith with honesty and clarity. It’s a great book.

you can access the catechism on the US bishops website usccb.org, but it is kind of hard to search. a very good searchable catechism is on catholicity.com. if you buy one spend a bit more and get the larger green volume, much easier to read, the small white book is hard to hold, and too thick for its size, hard to read. sold on the bishops site, as well as at amazon and most chain bookstores.

I would reccomend buying The Faith Database if you can. It costs around $40. In addition to the Catechism, it has writing s by the Early Church FAthers, several Bible translations, Bible maps, and a bevy of other resources.

You have the Faith Database?

They claim to have ‘over 1300 Papal writings and Encyclicals’ to search from, so I have been thinking of getting it. But I asked for a list of the contents from their support, so I could see if it was more than what is already available online, and what was in English, and they refused to give it to me. Which makes me… concerned because I like to know in advance what I am actually buying.

Can you give me an idea of what the contents are? How do you like it?

Yeah, I agree. The white one is too thick for it’s size. But it’s the only one the bookstore had. Then my church gift shop got the green ones in after I bought mine. I wish I waited a short time.
The only really plus side (other than it being the catechism) is that, my church only sells the paperback version, and my mom purchased a multi-ribbon bookmark for her bible, and her bible is too big for it, but it fits the catechism just fine.

But yes, get one. Definitely a great resource.

I love it, and it is no exaggeration. Some of the Bible translations (NIV and NAB off the top of my head) do require internet access, but most don’t. The contents can be filtered by criteria such as century, specific popes, etc. I highly reccomend it.

I also LOVE the CCC. You can get good used copies all the time on Amazon. I recently bought a very good used copy of the full size paper back for $0.98 plus the $3.99 shipping. I think it was like $1.50 when I put it in my cart on Amazon. Next time I opened my cart I got an alert that the price had dropped to $0.98, which made it irresistible 🙂 I’ve also gotten very good used copies of the white pocket book size paperback there.

I like the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church . It is written in question and answer format. It fully references back to the paragraph numbers of the CCC.

My DRE really likes the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults

The one I found there is a highly abridged summary version. Is there a good searchable version of the official Catechism of the Catholic Church online?
This site
catholicplanet.com/
has a link to the catechism as one long webpage, which can be searched using the search function in any browser. It can also be downloaded and used offline in the same way.

The CCC is not the be all and end all of Catholic teaching. It is a useful reference, but one should not treat the Catechism as if it contained the answer to every question on faith or morals.

There is also the Compendium of the Catechism, which is an easier to understand explanation of the same basic teachings.

Yes,read it and reference it often:thumbsup:

Same with a Catholic Bible:D

Love and prayer’s

Yes, do get your own copy. I found mine at a used bookstore and it was in excellent condition.

One thing I do is when I’m reading it, looking something up in it, I write down in my Bible the section numbers of the catechism next to the relevant scripture passages. I’m making my own cross-reference system.
