Just FYI, Catholic Truth Society is an English company, so their Missal has readings from the Jerusalem Bible and propers of the English/Welsh Conference.

The only American equivalent I know of, which has both English and the Latin for the Order of Mass, would be Midwest Theological Forum’s Daily Missal. Not sure off of the top of my head if they have the Mass propers in both languages though…

The readings, prefaces, collects, prayers over the offerings, prayers after communion, and a few other things, are in English only. The only propers in Latin are the Entrance and Communion Antiphons and the response to the Psalm, as far as I can tell

Ah. Well, then I guess CTS stands alone in offering a bilingual Daily Missal. Hopefully other publishers will follow suit at some point.

It helps protect the integrity of the text, it ensures that all of the translators and editors are properly compensated for their work, and it also is somewhat helpful in preventing the texts from being used for profane reasons.

If you’re asking why the Missal texts are more strictly copyrighted than, say, the New American Bible which can be freely read on many websites; it’s because the Missal was an official international work of the Catholic Church, as opposed to the NAB which was a voluntary cooperation just from the USCCB. Meaning the USCCB had more power to free up the copyright for their Bible translation.
Jubilate Deo is also free to distribute.

I don’t particularly like Magnificat; their publication is fine [edited].

There are two American publications almost exactly like it, one is called Give Us This Day and the other one is The Word Among Us. Both of them are monthly publications that have all of the Lectionary readings and Missal texts for every day of the month (plus perhaps a special Holy Week issue).

If you’re OK with missing the Mass propers (Entrance Antiphon, Collect, Offertory, Preface, Communion Antiphon, and the Prayer after Communion), you can also just get the Lectionary readings on practically a thousand different websites online, including the USCCB. The Mass propers, though, are under a somewhat strict copyright and you can’t legally read them anywhere without paying some sort of fee.
I subscribe to The Word Among Us and I enjoy it however, I used to get just the Kindle version then added the print version which is a little expensive. I found that I read the Kindle version 99% of the time and am dropping the print version. I really love reading it on my Kindle every day. Hope this helps.

Hi,

Should I buy a Weekday and/or Sunday Missal? I’m in the UK and currently considering Collins’ editiions… However, I’ve spotted some suggestions that the liturgy is to be re-published.

Thanks in advance,
Hugh

I subscribe to Give Us This Day, both print and iPhone, and it has both Weekday as well as Sunday readings. I’m pretty sure the other publications referenced earlier do also. They all have good websites which can answer questions you may have about their particular works.
