After careful consideration, I consider your point moot. Why must they be mutually exclusive? We are meant to have a modicum of leisure time, where we can relax and enjoy life. This person may have a very devout prayer life, and if he wants to spend some time playing Wii U in between sessions of prayer, why is that wrong? If this person chooses to use that time to play the Wii U, provided he chooses wholesome games, who are you to turn him away from it? While there are certainly video games that would be unwise to play, the Wii U offers many games that feature wholesome, family entertainment.
As I understand it, we are meant to live lives that conform to the command to “Pray without ceasing.” That does not mean we are meant to live 24/7 in constant, focused prayer, but to have a focus on God. Is the appreciation of something fun a detraction from God, or is it perhaps closer to the mark that appreciating every moment we have as a gift from God is a better way to fulfill that command? I think we should be living in appreciation of God’s blessings, and that can be done both in thoughtful prayer with our Lord and in the things we do throughout our daily lives.

when it comes to this video game debate about how much should be played here is how I view this issue.
As someone who follows our Lord and Savior we must live lives that are conformed to his life that where we radically follow him with undivided hearts. None of us would disagree with that. What does that mean though for someone’s life. Does living a radical life for jesus mean selling all of your possessions and going to spend your life with mother teresa’s order or something similar, maybe for some people this is a calling for them, but not everyone.
to shorten this point I’m trying to make we are all called to different things, and just because we are called to live a radical life for Jesus doesn’t mean we have to live a life like Mother Teresa, Padre Pio, St. Vincent de Paul, etc. God has called us to a specific way of life and if you love him and desire to be with him at all times you will be living radically for The Lord.
When it comes to our hobbies our leisure activities, etc. You must ask yourself a simple question. Does this activity bring me closer to God or further away from him? Video games could bring you closer to him, or it could bring you away from him. No-one on this board should be able to make a determination about this for this person. Not even a spiritual director would come out and say oh I think you play to much video games, he may say I think you should examine how much you play those video games, but he would never come out and say stop playing video games.
To the anti-video game people let people make their own decisions and don’t try and force your view about what is proper moderation on other people.

So I ended up buying one. No regrets so far. Seeing my mii in hd, playing super metroid on the couch with the gamepad (I’m legally blind and normally can’t game on the couch), and poking around miiverse has been really fun. Anyone want to be friends?

That shouldn’t be a problem - there’s not much on the Wii-U to play.
The video game industry is rapidly turning to in-game purchase business models (after an upfront purchase already), which I’ve grown a distaste for. It would really do us a lot of good to drop gaming and avoid the next-gen, spiritually and financially IMHO. It’s gonna turn gamers into addicts.

Altough from what I’ve seen, Nintendo does less with paid-for DLC than other companies. For the most part, you buy the entire game when you buy the game. So from that standpoint, maybe it’s better to buy a Wii U than, say, whatever the new Xbox system is. (It’s the Xbox one, right? I think I heard that name somewhere. I am very behind the times.)That shouldn’t be a problem - there’s not much on the Wii-U to play.

You are correct on all counts.
I do appreciate that Nintendo does not often include DLC. I do not believe it ever has on the Wii, now that I think about it.
It takes awhile to wear down the wife on video game purchases.

The WiiU is Nintendo’s sixth video game home console. It was released in November 2012 and is preceded by the NES (1985), SNES (1991), N64 (1996) GameCube (2001) and Wii (2006).
It is a brand new console, but Nintendo was capitalizing on the success of the Wii by using a name that people would recognize. It does sort of lead to confusion, though, as many people seem to think it’s just a peripheral addition to the Wii rather than a brand new game console.
Further adding to the confusion is that the WiiU – although it utilizes a brand new WiiU GamePad controller – still retains use of the Wii remote and nunchuk to play most of the games (as the WiiU currently only supports the use of one GamePad at a time).

Going OT, the NES, any other child of the 80’s played that thing until you had “Nintendo thumb”? My Dad and I would play that thing for hours until we had an imprint of the arrows on our thumb, thus “Nintendo thumb”.

And I thought I invented “Nintendo thumb.” It’s interesting to me to see how people have parallel experiences. Like with blowing in the cartridges. This is pre-internet, so it’s not as though we all found the same website that gave that as a troubleshooting tip. And yet we all did it.Ah, memories…
