First a bit of background. I am a convert for 2 years, very happy in the Church, living in country with lots of ‘liberal’ parishes and Catholics.
When I converted, I visited the parish closest to my home, but was shocked by what I saw. A very weird and liberal creed, the Mass was lead by a woman, etc. So I decided to go to a parish a bit further but more traditional and in line with Rome. I have been a happy member since I got there.
My priest is pretty traditional when it comes to liturgy and Church rules. However, I have found that he does some things which are not in line with what Rome teaches. First, he has someone with the cup of Blood of Christ standing next to him, and when we get the host, we can ‘dip’ it in the wine. I think I read somewhere that this is not allowed, although practiced in some of our parishes, but since my priest seemed very sincere, and since I did not want to cause any trouble (being a new member and all), I never asked him about it.
Second, he has the assembly say the Per Ipsum (Through him, with him, in him . . .) with him. And today I read here that it is not allowed either.
It might be that in my diocese these things are actually allowed, but I am not sure.
So, my question is: should I confront him with these two things? I know the easy answer will come like: yes, you should because what he does is wrong. I know that. But there are more factors in play. I am still not comfortable to cause any trouble, since I have just bonded with my priest and a few parish members. I feel like my relations with them could be harmed if I were to bring this up.
Also, my priest is very sincere and good priest. He teached me a lot while I was converting, sparing no time or efforts to help me. He is a very nice and wise man. I really feel it’s not my place (yet) to confront him with this.
And you have to remember that many parishes in my country are very liberal. Mine is traditional, exept for maybe these two points. Is it then really that important to bring up?
Thoughts?
