Should I continue to watch Star Trek Discovery?

I’ve been watching Star Trek Discovery on Netflix and it turns out that two of the heroes are gay, in a relationship, sharing the same quarters and have just kissed before one of them risks his life in the war against the Klingons. Only he has the DNA to activate the trans-dimensional drive to complete the mission.

I stopped it there.

Portraying practising homosexuals as heroes? That’s not OK, right?

Dna from a gay person will be able to activate the trans dimensional drive? That’s not possible. I think you are being told lies.

I don’t think it’s a sin to watch the show so long as the whole show is not about this couples homosexuality and it does not cause a occasion of sin for you. You are not going to begin to embrace homosexual relationships if you watch this show are you? If not, I would relax. Two characters being gay is not the same as a show that is practically pornographic or just violent for the sake of violence.

However, what you described would probably make me not want to watch but I would not call it a automatic sin for everyone to watch either.

First, gay people are entirely capable of being heroic. As to whether you should stop watching, that depends. Are you mature enough to recognize it’s just a tv show and should not be the basis for your morality? If so, it’s fine. If not, avoid it.

Are you sure the heroes are humans? If they’re not, then maybe they aren’t gay.

Are there “gay” Klingons? If there are, is it okay for them to be heroes, or should they be villains?

You should not watch, but NOT because two of the characters are gay. Watching ANY Star Trek episode beyond the original series is a sacrilege, including the Star Trek movies.

You are old enough to know the difference between reality and fantasy…it’s entertainment. Just say ‘yuck’ and enjoy the rest of the series! PS I don’t think gay has as much to do with the transwarpy thingy as his genes…probably alien…

I’m fairly sure what you describe is a violation of Starfleet Directive 3745.2. Spock and Bones got into big, big trouble over that once in an alternate timeline that at the end of the show turned out never to have actually happened.

Plus… Using the wrong DNA to activate your trans-demensional drive will void the factory warranty. Everybody knows that.

Obviously you are wrong in your entire premise, but why no exception for The Wrath of Khan?

It would be wrong to portray homosexuality as right or good,. But that is not the same thing as portraying a character as a hero who is also gay.

There is no such thing as a trans-dimensional drive except in science fiction and fantasy. And in a science fiction story, the author decides what’s possible.

Also the OP didn’t say “it takes a gay gene to do this”. He said that only that one character he referred to could do it (and that character is gay).

Like others have said, it’s completely up to you. I know I decided to stop watching Doctor Who this year since the main character changed from a man to a woman. The show has been becoming more and more active in promoting transgenderism and active homosexuality over the past few seasons, and this was the final straw for me.

I can’t believe I read this thread…
Honestly, I would advice you to speak with counselor Troy about scrupulousity.

The gay guy injected himself with the DNA of a space dwelling creature that was previously used to activate the drive but was dying as a result. I didn’t say it was because he had gay DNA that only he could activate the drive.

So the Doctor becoming a woman is transgenderism? Hadn’t thought of that.

I’ll allow it.
In that case, you’re correct.

And Oroville. It does star trek better than any of the spinoffs. It’s just that instead of just the captain they’re all bumbling incompetents 😱:roll_eyes:🤣

If a program portrays evil, don’t watch and make sure the advertisers know why.

Nothing will change unless the advertisers know you aren’t watching. Just don’t walk away, tell them why.
