A girl who I knew earlier in life was hit by a car two months ago today and all of her old friends are saying untrue statements on facebook. One of them I would like to response to is a girl wa like “Oh God has gotten the chance to see one of the most beautiful girls ever and I know she is the best angel in heaven! I hope you are having fun up there we miss you!” Now see that just sounds terrible. I feel like since I am confirmed I should defend the Faith and Its teachings and shouldn’t let this go because it is misleading and lots of people have seen it. But since she died I am not sure I that should matter if someone is saying false things about God. Please respond and have a great night! God Bless!

No, it would be inappropriate to respond to these statements in the way you have described. Leave these people alone. They are grieving the loss of their friend and seeking comfort, not attacks from you.

You can do much damage by trying to defend the faith in inappropriate ways and at inappropriate times

So you SHOULD leave a misleading statement alone is what you are saying?

What I am saying is that one must exercise the virtues of prudence, charity, and friendship and discern when it is appropriate to approach someone on such a topic and when it’s not.

And that doing what you propose lacks all of those virtues.

Leave it alone.

Alright thank you for responding, I will leave it alone. I was just unsure thanks for the advice! God Bless!

People are grieving. Why does people saying what comforts them sound terrible to you?!?

The fact is YOU do not know that she is NOT in heaven! Fact.

What false things are they saying about God?

Let is go, sheesh.

I don’t think that she might be in heaven is at issue. I think he’s referring to the falsity that she is now an “angel” in the sense that angels are different creatures from us and we do not become angels when we die…
Let is go, sheesh.
This, I certainly agree with. Apologetics should involve charity and humility, and should serve its purpose as well (faith education). Contradicting a greiving person about an issue this small is uncharitable and would likely harden the heart and mind of all who see it by virtue of its unsensitive nature. Likewise, facebook comments are generally a poor medium for passing along good apologetics, so it would be unlikely to properly inform or educate while at the same time coming off poorly for the church and charity of Christians.

I agree with the others that this isn’t the best time or place to comment on theological points like these…

as for the girl being in Heaven, for all we know she could be, and hopefully that is the case 🙂
