Should I donate my Catholic books to the library?

Probably what you want is the satisfaction of knowing that people are reading your books. In all likelihood, the library will not put your books on the shelf, but will sell them for 25 cents each. That’s not a very satisfying outcome! So, start a church library instead.

I agree completely. The CCD kids and RCIA folks would really appreciate them.

In the next week or so I plan to have a contest/drawing at my blog for some books I am looking to pass on. Up for grabs will be:
  • ***Without Roots ***
  • ***Suprised By Truth ***
  • ***Modern Russian Theology: Bukharev, Solovieve, Bulgakov ***
People will be invited to choose which book they want to be in the drawing for, and then they will have to leave a message in the com box with their email.

I got this idea from another blogger. It seemed like a fun way to get rid of some books and get my 12 readers:) involved!

Could you donate them to the religious education library for your church parish ?

Hi everyone. My local library has absolutely no books on the Catholic faith. I am considering donating my Catholic books that I have already read to the library so that they have some and so that hopefully some people will read them and want to convert to the Catholic faith. All my Catholic books are good ones and have at least an imprimatur. So, should I donate the books that I have already read to the library or not? By the way, this is a public library I am speaking about. Vote in my poll! 👍
Absolutely…i recomend that Catholics should make a point of dropping off new / old books at their local library. I have bought a number of new books by Scott Hahn Rome Sweet Home ] and placed them in different libraries around our city. Incidentally they appear to be well read…i embarked on this ’ mission ’ as i realised that centuries of indoctrination means that non-catholics will only ever get a glimpse of our beliefs at weddings and / or funerals ! I say go for it…if there is a hunger then people will respond !!!👍

Thank you everyone for your advice. I have decided to keep the books and loan them out to people who are interested. 🙂
I know you’ve already made your decision (which I fully support :)) and this post is probably a week late BUT…

…Even if the item donated doesn’t get put on the shelf but is sold at a library booksale, it might still be beneficial. Whoever buys the item for $1 may be someone who needs that book and would not ordinarily buy a Catholic book.

Not that I advocate you change your mind (the library could, after all, toss the book and not put it up for sale). I just thought I’d present another possible perspective.
