A woman I know, who has raised several daughters to adulthood, told me she had her girls chart the actual period. She also explained (at an appropriate level) about mucus. She didn’t go into great detail nor how to do “proper observations”, but gave enough so that they would know what it was if they noticed it. If they did, she would have them mark that down as well. She told me that it segued nicely into other discussions as they got older.
Having a basic knowledge of both “flows” helps girls (as well as women) know when to expect the next period. I would think that it would help for girls to have that knowledge, especially when they are surrounded by other girls telling them how wonderful it is to take their shots/pills and know exactly when they will get their periods.
