Should I feel guilty if I am consolded by God. Sometimes I feel like I’m using up merits. I don’t like to see others go without consolation, while I have been blessed at times. It doesn’t seem right. Tim

God gives His gifts to each person as He sees fit. When He freely gives you a gift, thank Him for it. And if you are concerned about others around you who are in need of consolation, you can be the hands and feet and voice of Christ for them, and console them in their suffering. The following is from 1 Corinthians 1:3-5:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.

No, you should not feel guilty about being consoled by God. He wants us to to go to Him, in fact He is constantly seeking us as much as we seek Him.
You are blessed with faith and it is a gift. We can and should pray for others to have faith and trust in God, and with that comes consolation and the Lord’s peace.

Blessings

Part of me fears another test. Part of me wants to witness. I know He doesn’t like cowards. I have alot on my mind. sorry Tim

God will lead you, you cannot force it or make it happen. Prayer for you to ask Him will help.

God has unlimited resources. Taking care of you does not negate his ability to meet the needs of others. Let Him be God. If He chooses to bless you…you can trust it is OK.

I learned through St. Faustina, that because of freewill , the Lords attempts can be exhausted. Like I said, I have alot on my mind. I can recognise the start of these lesson’s now. But I never know what to expect. Thanks for your help, Tim

God knows best what is good for you and what is good for others.
We don’t have to second-guess Him. Just trust Him and thank Him for the consolations. He may work differently with you at another time.

You should not be feeling guilty - just keep trusting Him and look only at Him, not others.

God is infinite love… you should not feel guilty, just very very loved.

No, don’t feel guilty, feel blessed, and keep the memory of these consolations with you when you go through your dark times.

We are to glorify God with the totality of our lives and being. That includes not only the penances and sufferings of life but also the pleasures and joys of living as well. Enjoying the consolations of God gives glory to God as long as you offer it back to God with thanksgiving. What does St. Paul say? “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” In such a way you are uniting yourself to God in everything whether it be your joys or sorrows. Everything we experience should lead us to thanksgiving, prayer and communion with God our Creator.

Sounds like you are ready to read “The Devout Life”. I just finished skimming through what St. Francis de Sales has to say about consolation catholictreasury.info/DevoutLife/Default.htm
Part 4 #13.
Thanks, I saved this under my favorites and plan on reading it. I can’t say I’m happy. I joke and kid, but thats to stay light hearted. I have been through the ringer, but every time , the Lord has made Himself evident and I have been giving reason’s to suspect why it has happened the way it did. Almost every day , I see His work in things. My life is falling apart, but I don’t care about that as much. That just seems like that is how it is going to be for me. Part of me has great fear of what’s next. Are these consolations preparing me for much worse? Then I see others who are going through much worse without consolations and wonder , maybe even envy , how much faith they have. I’m just now starting to offer up these consolations for others and take the heat myself, but He still ease’s me. I know this is a weird complaint, but I keep thinking to whom much is giving, much is expected. I don’t think I can live up to it. I sought to go into the prison ministry through my church , but under advice in the confessional, was told I have enough on my plate, take care of my home first, that it took Paul 3 years to get it together before he even started. I live 30 miles from anywhere, any hospital, nursing home, jail. I’m covered in tattoos, a hospital isn’t going to let me just go in and share with sick kids, which is what I want to do. It’s seem like I’m only able to console by prayer and offerings and have faith in the results. Maybe that is how the Lord is still strengthening my faith even though I know He is there. The greatest gift the Lord gave me was His love. How do I live up to that? I can’t love like that. His love is sinless and unselfish. I’m thankful, but still scared I’m getting this much attention from such a powerful God. My mom used to say “God watches over fools and drunks”. How blissfully unaware I was before I really believed and sought Him out. I’ll sort out my thoughts , regain my trust and look over St. Francis de Sales writings. It may take some time. Thank you all for your help, advice and prayers, Tim

Sounds like something even more troubling than my fight. Although, it is pretty similar. I’m afflicted by scruples, an unrelenting fear of offending God. For many months, I sealed up. I wouldn’t watch movies; I quit visiting websites. I saw sin everywhere. Really, most of it was just near occasions of sin. The kinds you can’t escape. Confession after Confession. I spent all day stressed. I asked lots of questions, and now I am finally relaxed again; at least, I’m only stressed by everyday things. I’ve always been worrisome. It crops up from time to time still, but…

Now, it’s starting to take the form of “You haven’t spent enough time with God today.” That’s going to be a whole new thing to work at.

Try to trust that God’s mercy is perfect. He created you, after all. He knows that you can’t do everything. Now, if only I could get my subconscious to believe what my conscious mind accepts so readily…
