Should I genuflect to the tabernacle?

The tabernacle in our church is located towards the back of the sanctuary and off to one side. When entering the church you can see the tabernacle which contains the reserved consecrated hosts. Our priest recently told the congreagation that genuflecting to the tabernacle was inappropriate. He is now going to “frost the glass” to make the tabernacle less visible. Is this right? I was taught to genuflect in reverance in the presence of the tabernacle whether it is behind a window or not!
