Just point out to him what it says in the Creed of the Catholic Church.

The protestants make a whole lot of “accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior” which if you truly understand the Catholic faith we totally agree with. Again point out what is stated in our Creed.

And also NO do not let you anyone try to Baptize you again! It is heresy.
If you were baptized once that’s it so long as it was done in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and water was poured, sprinkled or dunked you are good to go.
Only if there are “doubts” in the form of a Baptism done by another denomination does the Church ever consider do a Baptism and even then the Church, The Catholic Church uses the conditional formula.
Check it out…

Well if it bothers you, I would say don’t attend the Bible study. Perhaps you could start your own with fellow Catholics?

Catholics do baptize in the name of Jesus. That’s one of the requirements for baptism, namely to baptize in the name of the Father, Son , and Holy Spirit.
It might be possible the man at the shelter is rejecting the Trinitarian formula and thinks (wrongly) baptisms can only be performed in the name of Jesus Christ only.

He said that the Holy Spirit is a title. To my knowledge the Holy Spirit is the spirit of God.

I think it’s best if you seek out a Catholic church closest to you as soon as you can and tell them your situation. Hopefully, the people at the Catholic church will find you a better arrangement. What they’re doing at your current shelter is absolutely wrong and you should not subject yourself to this. You or anyone else won’t convince the man to accept your baptism.

All this guy does is talk down about the Church sone go as far as saying we worship Mary instead of God.

Please call your local Catholic Charities and explain your situation. They should be able to help you and get a referral for you to a different shelter which will not engage in such practices.

Yeah, I considered that. However, most Protestants still hold to the Trinitarian formula, and understandably so, since it is very explicitly commanded in Scripture. It seemed more likely, then, to be standard confusion over Catholicism. That said, I could see some serious theological flaws making someone interpret the command to mean only Jesus, speaking of which…
He said that the Holy Spirit is a title.
Yeah, this guy sounds like he’s making some error when it comes to the Trinity. Saying that “Holy Spirit” is a title is generally not something Trinitarians say. Yeah, you could maybe argue that it is the title of the third person of the Trinity, but the language gives the impression that he sees the Holy Spirit less as a distinct person and more a title to another person.
To my knowledge the Holy Spirit is the spirit of God.
Sort of…The problem with the language is that it still leaves open the idea that the Holy Spirit isn’t a distinct person Who, along with the Father and Son, is God but at the same time neither the Father nor the Son. Some who see “Holy Spirit” as a title may say that the Holy Spirit is not a distinct person but a title for God in general, perhaps due to some modalistic tendencies.
