Should I give away immodest clothing?

Part of my problem is that several of them contain quite a bit of spandex! In my pre-reversion life I went to dance clubs quite a bit.

:hug1: Don’t beat your-self up. We all do things we’re not so proud of.

As far as the clothes go, toss them if you feel that strongly about them. Don’t think about them anymore.

This is a toughy because it TOTALLY depends on how immodest we are talking. I hate to throw things away, but I have been known to throw away books that are ‘what I consider’ wrong- so I guess if I had clothes that were really immodest- belly buttons showing, etc- I would probably cut them into dusting rags as someone else suggested. Now- another thought- my children do plays at a community theatre. The director is VERY particular about modesty- so when things come in, they are completely “redone” to cover all important parts- or even the material can be used!

Would that you might read the words of Our Lady of Fatima regarding fashions that would horribly grieve the heart of God.

Out of curiosity, where would I find those words? Are they online somewhere?

I think modesty is important for a Christian woman, but I also agree it’s good to keep in mind we Catholic, not Amish. Personally, as someone who makes alot of doll clothes, anything of mine I deem unfit for wear…whether it’s because I no longer feel comfortable in it due to modesty issues or because it’s getting holey and tattered…I toss it into a box and cut it up when I need fabric in smaller sizes. It’s also great for quilting!

If you don’t feel comfortable giving these clothes away, that’s fine. I can understand that, actually. Cut them up into fabric scraps or give them to someone you know will do the same. As a crafter, I can tell you we are ALWAYS on the prowl for nice material.

Thanks to all who have responded. This thread is very old and no longer active, so I am unsubscribing. I got my answer months ago and now simply throw away all immodest clothing as I weed out my wardrobe (since I do not sew and don’t have the time to cut up fabric left and right).

Here is part of the quote from Our Lady of Fatima:

One thing that you might not have thought about is that your immodest clothing may possibly be “infested” with evil spirits. According to Fr. Gabiel Amorth, the chief exorcist of Rome, this could very well happen. Just consider the reasons that you bought these clothes in the first place: were you vain, or were you trying to look sexy so as to catch someone’s eye, were you trying to make others jealous, etc.?

The motive that made you buy the clothing and the motive of why you wore something that was so revealing…those motives may reveal (no pun intended) which spirit was present when these events were taking place, and which spirit(s) might still be present infesting your immodest clothing.

Keep one thing in mind…you wouldn’t be giving away cloth; you’d be giving away an immodest style. If that style of clothing even puts 1 single impure thought into the recipient’s mind…you will have been party to a sin. And again, if that recipient wears that clothing, others who may see her wearing it might very well have impure thoughts (and possibly impure actions…such as rape) because of it. Hence, possibly more sin that you’ve been a party to.

Is the price of a pair of tight-fitting designer jeans…worth the price of dirtying someone’s soul with sin?

Throw it all out…every bit of it.

That said, what ought I to do with these items? Throw them away, or give them away in good faith that someone might use them properly? I just hate to waste expensive materials like these, and unfortunately I am no seamstress!

I’m always out of good dusters. I’ve got two of them: one duster is torn and stretched, like a threadworm, it’s almost useless. The other is somewhat fluffy and it’s difficult to wash dust off it. Now I think if I had a duster of silk or other lux materials, it would serve longer and function better. It would be more water-efficient (less water to wash off dust) which is eco-friendly. Yes, would be expensive, but sure worth it. Anyway, as a Christian, you can not just let another girl wear the wear if you consider it non-Christian. While dusters are always helpful.
