Should I go to this baby shower?

I am very close friends with a co-worker whose daughter is pregnant and not married, but living together with her boyfriend in my friend’s home. They are planning a baby shower and I am torn about going. I do not agree with this arrangement, but it is not the fault of the baby. Please help me to know the right thing to do.

Going to a baby shower for an unmarried woman is not the same thing as going to a presumptively-invalid wedding. A baby shower is meant to celebrate the impending birth and to help a first-time mother transition to her new life as a mother. If you prefer not to go though, you could “find” another commitment that you have on the same day. Once the baby is born you could visit your friend, her daughter, and the new baby, and bring a gift for the baby at that time.
