Should I have been told to stand up for Communion?

I recently was visiting a parish I have never been to. As is my preference, I kneeled down to receive Communion when it was my turn. The priest gave me a frustrated glare and ordered me “Stand up! Stand up!” Not quite knowing what to do, I did as he asked. Was this right for him to do?
