I have been asked to help my sister and her daughter move in with her boyfriend this weekend. We already have a strained relationship and I am one of the only positive influences in her life, so I don’t want to cause a bigger rift, but I am worried that helping her move could be cooperating in evil. Our dad is the one who asked me and he is helping too, but he is not in good physical shape and I don’t want him to do more than he should. Would helping my sister move be cooperating in her sin of cohabitation?

How could it be anything but? You are being asked to move her into a residence in which she will be cohabiting with her boyfriend. Not only that, but you will be facilitating moving her daughter (your niece) into a situation in which her daughter will daily be witness to her mother’s immoral lifestyle, which constitutes contributing to the moral corruption of a child.

If you have just reason to avoid unnecessary strain to your relationship with your sister, you don’t have to specify exactly why you cannot help her move. Just tell her that you are “unavailable” and have “other obligations.” As for your father, he is responsible for his own choices. You may want to share with him your concerns, assuming he will keep your confidence should you believe it necessary to avoid confronting your sister with your objections, but whether or not he chooses to help (even at the expense of his own health) is his own concern.
