Hello. I would like advice on whether or not I should allow overnight guests that live together without benefit of marriage in my home. I am inclined to advise such a couple that they are welcome in my home but that they are not allowed to sleep in the same room. I am concerned, however, with friends that will be turned away from the Catholic Church if I am rigid in this area. If I allowed them to stay in home it would be try to influence them to change their ways.

Is this a case-by-case decision or should it be applied to all couples? Also, would the situation be different if I had children. My aim is to be faithful to the Church.

Thank you.

if you don’t have children, i don’t see the reason why you wouldn’t host them…that is unfortunate that they are not married, but you can’t make decisions for them. they live together anyway so why would having them at your house together be any worse?

It is however, YOUR home. If YOU don’t feel comfortable with them sleeping together in your house, you have every right to tell them so. If they don’t like it, that’s THEIR problem.
I wouldn’t worry what other people will think…stick to your guns !

I had the same situation happen to me. My nephew and his girlfriend live together. When they came to visit, they new ahead of time there wasn’t going to be any bed sharing…regardless of what they do at “their” place. It wasn’t even open to discussion.

They came, slept in separate rooms and everything was fine.

I agree.

I must agree with Gardenman – they would not sleep in the same room if they visited my home – regardless of hurt feelings.

Cohabitation seems to be the norm for the present generation and, for Catholics, this is a sin of fornication. Ugly name for an ugly sin.:knight1:
