Should I join a sorority still?

I am on the fence about initiating into a sorority at my school. The initiation ceremony is on Sunday (as are many other things) and I really don’t like the idea of missing mass for something that isn’t as important as Jesus. I think it is safe to assume most of the girls are not religious but when it comes to sorority tradition they take it very seriously almost as seriously as I take Church tradition and faith.

Don’t get me wrong the girls are all very nice and I am friends with a few of them even though my participation has not been the greatest. Hazing is illegal in Canada so I haven’t had any problems with that its just with RCIA and me going to church every Sunday and Tuesday, I just don’t feel like I am really bonding with the group not like how I did before. I feel like if I was to join it would conflict with RCIA and Sunday obligation.

I would suggest putting God first and scheduling everything else around that.

This a decision that you must make on your own. We can not make it for you. You may wish to see what other masses are available or if there is a mass on Saturday eve. Good luck and prayers.

I understand. I just feel like this may not be the right kind of group for someone like myself. I have 7 days before I need to decide. I will pray and ask God for guidance.

Personally, I am not in favor of sororities unless they have some type of Christian goal and have a history of living up to that goal. I can not speak for all sororities, but only offer my opinion. You may wish to check with your parish to see if they have something geared for young adults. Prayers for you.

My daughter was a Delta Gamma at her Jesuit University. They fed the homelesss once a week and worked monthly with a blind childrens charity. It was a wonderful experience, and if your grades dropped, you were put on academic probation and required to attend thrice weekly tutoring which was mandatory. She met her best friend on tht first day of recruitment, and 14 years later, they are still besties! 👍

You can always join an academic one.
I belong to Sigma Alpha Iota…the one for female musicians.
We gave many concerts and made valuable connections with professional musicians.
Excel at your area of study and you will be asked to join one.

Hi confusedgirl,

I agree with Clare.

I would join an academic one.
