Hello all,
I am wondering if maybe I should look into the Eastern Catholic Churches. I say this because I am not spiritually nourished by Roman Catholic spirituality and the music of the mass.
Specifically, I find nothing wrong in theory with RC praxis these just aren’t for me (and yes I’ve tried for years):
– rosary
– eucharistic adoration
– Marty Haguen and similar songs

Should I consider investigating Eastward?

All Roman Catholics should be investigating Eastern Christianity. It was the express wish of the Second Vatican Council and of John Paul II that Roman Catholics should come to know intimately the theological, spiritual, and liturgical traditions of the East. So yes, definitely start investigating the East. If upon investigation you find that you are drawn more towards the East, then work with a priest and/or spiritual director to make the canonical transfer. 🙂

As Phillip mentioned, I think it definitely behooves one to learn about our Eastern brethren. However, I would also mention seeing if you can’t find a more traditional parish within the Latin Rite. I don’t like Marty Haguen and his contemporaries in terms of their music either, so I totally get where you are coming from. Where do you live? People may be able to give you a suggestion based on your location.

Peace!

People look east! May you be blessed by God in your search! :byzsoc:

Note that the rosary and eucharist adoration are not what makes a Roman Catholic a Roman Catholic. In other words, for example, one can be 100% Roman Catholic and never pray the rosary. The rosary is an expression of Dominican spirituality, and it isn’t the only spirituality that RC has to offer – Ignatian, Franciscan, Carmelite, etc.

As far as Haugen tunes go, I can see why they would make you want to find something else. Daily Mass or sometimes an early Sunday Mass can be a little easier on the ears.

Please, don’t get caught up in canonical transfers and things like that. Just go and worship and be open to where the Lord leads you. He may lead you to the ECC and then right back to the RC.

Don’t become an Eastern Catholic because you do not like Western Catholicism. Become Eastern Catholic because you love Eastern Catholicism:thumbsup:

Well said 👍👍👍

You don’t even need to canonically transfer–just start attending an Eastern Catholic parish. The “eastern-ness” is far more in your mind and heart than on a piece of paper.

I agree that Latin Rite Catholics should look towards their East to know their spiritual, liturgical, theological traiditions. But just as well, Eastern Catholics and Orthodox should look to the West to know our traditions as well. We can all learn from each other.

Hows it goin pilgrim? I went East. I was having the same problem in both of the parishes that are in my geographic area, I was not feeling spiritually nourished, among oter things and I thought I could just deal with it and wait it out but that started doing more harm than good so I started attending a Maronite Parish near me and I absolutely love it! The priest is everything that a Catholic priest should be, he doesn’t sugar coat or try to be PC and for someone like me who is in college and dealing with a lot of stuff I think that’s very good. But i do love the Maronite parish I’m in and love the liturgy, so I say go for it!

Go for it.

Check it out and see …

Many people here can guide you and recommend books on EC spirituality. Make a pilgrimage to a local EC parish and talk to the priest if you can arrange it.

Explore it with a positive attitude and enjoy the experience.

No, the problem lies in your heart.

But anyway I’ve got something else to show you and anyone else who’s interested. Please look, it’s very important. The holy love.org is especially relevant considering what’s occurring with the healthcare… Please view these, pray about them, and if you believe as I do help propagate them in your families and parishes.
