Should I make rosaries for my non-Catholic parents?

(hopefully this is an okay place to post my question) :o

My parents are Methodists currently attending–sporadically–a non-denom. evangelical fellowship. Lately my folks have fallen on hard, and I mean VERY hard, relationship things that have been extremely difficult for them to address to each other, without one person blowing up at the other and the other giving the silent treatment/ignoring for literal days. When I found this out last night, it vexed and troubled me so much that I prayed to Jesus at my bedtime that He’d take every breath of mine–every cell function, every thought, everything of my physical being–as an offering for an end to their dysfunction and peace to their souls.

Now I have a feeling that I should make them rosaries. I create heirloom rosaries that are unique to the individual, and I’ve spent a ton of time online figuring out the perfect centers, crucifixes, crystal and semi-precious beads to fit them individually. All I need to do is order the parts, author the rosaries’ stories, and create them.

But I’m wondering: should I even bother? Part of me thinks that there’s the distinct possibility they’ll end up at the bottom of an underwear drawer or something. Another part thinks they’ll get “upset” that I’m trying to “convert” them. Still another part thinks that I should just go ahead and make them, and how my folks handle it is up to Jesus. I just know what the rosary has done for my own peace and closeness with Jesus, and if it even remotely gives them the same thing, then it’s worth it.

What do you think?

This is the answer…right here…make the rosaries.

P.S. Have you made rosaries for anyone else? I am curious. I need a new one! 🙂

Don’t just give them to them, but sit with them and teach them how to use it, and how it has enhanced your own spirituality. Perhaps start with The Divine Mercy which might be easier for them to understand, from a theological perspective. Tell them about it, then pray it with them. Maybe even ask if you can pray with them in this way on a regular basis, maybe once a week or something. What a lovely way to spend time with your parents!

Good for you! I think that is a very loving and thoughtful thing to do!

Wow, that is one of the best ideas I have ever heard to ease the fighting of a couple. You should DEFINATELY make the rosaries. It might humble them a bit that you took the time to creates individual rosaries that fit their own personal styles. Someone above me said to teach them how to pray as well, and I couldn’t agree more. You asked for Jesus’s help, and this is Jesus’s answer.

You could make the rosary, but give them a copy of how to say the Divine Mercy Chaplet for it. That way if they have a problem with praying to Mary, they can say the Divine Mercy Chaplet…which seems to me like it would be acceptable to any Christian.
