Should I not have attended my son's non-Catholic wedding?

My son has been married for almost 8 years. He married a girl who belonged to an Evangelical church and they were married by her Pastor. Recently a friend told me that I should not have supported the marriage by attending it. Was it wrong for me to attend the ceremony and support him in his marriage since then? God bless and thank you for answering my question.
